Dr. Alan E. Hananel, is the best urologist I've ever visited. He has an excellent bedside manner, is extremely knowledgeable and very to the point with his diagnosis and recommendations for treatment. He was recommended several years ago by my PCP, as he is as well a patient of Dr. Hananel's. If you can't get along with Dr. Hananel, look in the mirror, there within may lie the problem...! Highly recommend him!

I have recommended Dr. Alan Hananel to others. He is knowledgeable, professional, and courteous; he always makes me feel as though he is interested in understanding and addressing my medical concerns. Also, he has excellent bedside manners. Dr. Hananel is an excellent physician.

I felt there was a rush to biopsy. I was referred to the doctor with slighly increased PSA readings, but still below 4, after a long history of low PSA readings. Before any examination Dr. Hananel stated that I needed a biopsy of the prostate. I suggested a repeat of the PSA test to confirm there was no lab error. He stated there was no reason to repeat the PSA test. I also informed him of my recent increase in athletic activity and asked if that could affect the PSA reading. The doctor stated the activity could not affect the PSA reading. The biopsy came back negative, but did show a slight irritation of the prostate on two samples. The doctor stated the irritation could be the reason for the increased PSA reading. I asked if my athletic activity could be the cause of the irritation. He stated yes, that was probably the cause of the irritation. He apparently forgot what he told me two weeks before.

Before the urine sample test results came back I was given a perscription and scheduled for an MRI after only a brief visual and digital exam. I had been having a bad problem with leaking and was wearing adult pull-ups. When he saw this in a very loud voice he yelled, --Youre wearing a diaper! Why are you wearing a diaper?!-- and before I could get over the embarassment further testing began. I was very embarassed because this was loud enough for anyone even to the waiting room to hear. I found this out because I could hear the conversation with another patient in the same room as I was leaving. I was told 2 days later after the test results came back that the first perscription was useless for my infection and I needed another one. I saw him 3 more times before leaving and felt like I was being intentionally ignored from his behavior.

This doctor does not discuss the risks and benefits with different treatment options. He just order the tests for the patient and does not explain the side effects. He appears to me less knowledgable as well. If you really take care of your health then stop and take deep breath and then decide if you really want to see this doctor.

Waited over an hour after my scheduled appointment time. Doctor examined me for 10 minutes, told me it was --all in my head-- and take Advil. Found more information on the internet about my problem. Paid almost $300 for someone to tell me to pop an over-the-counter drug? No thanks. Not very knowledgeable concerning my ailments.

He was reading the PSA result from previous test done 2 weeks earlier, Not the latest one, and rushed to biopsy The nurse staff is very poor, and making sure you have insurance and payment. Not very responsive to your test results. Not recommended for new patients!

He treated my mother for a very large kidney stone he tried a shockwave procedure first and told us it went perfectly , we made an appointment in a few weeks to get a stent he placed removed and he sent us to get xrays and he told us the stone was still there. He decided to do surgery , my mom had to get a tube placed in her back and on the first try she felt everything because they didn’t numb the area , they tried the next day and placed the tube and he didn’t give any order for pain medication after the procedure and had my mother crying of pain. He decided to do surgery the next day and he assured us it would only take an hour. My mother came out of surgery after 2 hours he said that the tube didn’t give him access to the stone because it wasn’t placed correctly and because there was too much blood. He then said her anatomy was weird and that the stone was very big but he couldn’t mention that before. He later said he had never done surgery on a patient a day after they got the tube placed in their back but he didn’t want to wait any longer because he didn’t want my mom to spend the weekend in the hospital. Nobody rushed him to do it the next day, why didn’t he wait ? Why do something he had never done? We would ask him a question and he could never give you an answer he would never answer the question. Not recommend at all.

This doctor is a joke! He doesnt listen to ANYTHING you say. Hell actually do the opposite as what you discuss with him. Dr. Hananel and his staff offer poor care to their patients. After my husbands surgery, he woke up screaming in pain because the dr didnt numb the area like he said he would, THEN he gave my husband the exact pain killers we told him do NOT work for my husband. We had to call his office over 30 times before we finally got through to someone.
