I cannot recommend Alex Vanni too highly for a urethral stricture opreation such as I had. A straightforward, very focused chap, he clearly knows his stuff and practices it. He is very popular, rightly so, but this results predictably in multi-month leadtimes. Despite what he and his assistant told me, due to the surgery involving a --rob Peter to pay Paul-- dual-location operation, I expected a good week or two of painkillers. I was wrong, it was just what they said: maybe one day. His stitching job turned out very pretty and my overall urine flow increased by a stunning factor or 25 (not a misprint: a 2 ml/s trickle turned into a 50 ml/s Niagra Falls). OK, this sounds a little weird, but I wouldnt hesitate to do it again. And remember, he does the hard work. You just lie there, and unconscious at that. Easy-Peasy.

Dr. Vanni is the OG of urologists! He has a great staff. He’s a nice guy that seems to genuinely care. And his surgical procedure changed my life. Don’t hesitate this guy is the real deal!

I selected Dr. Vanni to remove a urethral stricture that developed after my radical prostatectomy. I chose him because of his breakthrough work using myomicin to inhibit the reformation of strictures. Dr. Vanni is very professional and, moreover, was a pleasure to interact with. One year after the procedure, I have had no recurrence and feel very optimistic about the future. I am pleased to highly recommend Dr. Vanni and feel very fortunate that I selected him to address my issue.

I received absolutely top notch care from Dr. Vanni and his staff, from my first exam to my last post-op visit. I had a stricture that required reconstruction, and a buccal mucosa urethroplasty was Dr. Vannis recommendation. Everything about the surgery and recovery was covered in detail beforehand, and the end result is exactly what Dr. Vanni expected. I couldnt be more pleased. Really an outstanding example of how good healthcare can be.

I was referred to Dr. Alex Vanni as one of the best urethral strictures surgeons in the area. From my first visit, I was totally impressed with his patient oriented attitude and medical expertise. He explained exactly what was wrong and the best solution with my interest in mind. I sincerely trust his medical knowledge and judgment. He and his team were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. It was the best personal care experience I have ever received from a healthcare team.

I had a lengthy (5 cm) urethral stricture, causing pain, blood, and bladder stones due to inability to empty my bladder, and becoming more dangerous with time. Two urologists told me they couldnt fix it. I was very scared. A doctor I trusted referred me to Dr. Vanni saying --Id want him if it was me--. Dr. Vanni told me --Its fixable, and I can fix it.-- He did, an a year later it remains fixed. The more serious your problem, the more you need a urologist as incredibly skilled as Dr. Vanni.

Dr Alex Vanni changed my life! For 30 years I experienced an Urethral Stricture saw different Urologist who all tried to help me. I had multiple surgeries over the years with short term relief also a bad experience. I was at the point of hopelessness when my Urologist recommended me to see Dr Vanni. Lucky for me he was only two and half hours away (I would have traveled across country for this kind of help). Dr Vanni was confident and professional the surgury was smooth and so was the recovery. It was one of the worst cases Dr Vanni has seen. After all I have been through I was very sceptical but Dr Vanni reassured me it would be fine. It was and now Im living a normal life!

Absolutely recommend Dr. Vanni and his staff. For anyone facing urinary issues do not hesitate. Get it checked out. I have dealt with recurring urethral stricture for years and was referred to Dr. Vanni. He recommended an operation. The procedure was successful and painless. I wish I had taken care of this earlier, it really does change the quality of your life. I can finally sleep through the night without getting up multiple times !

I had been dealing with incontinence for 17 years due to prostate cancer. I was referred to Dr. Vanni for the AMS Artificial Sphincter surgery. Dr. Vanni is very professional and knowledgeable and positive. His surgery has changed my life. I am pad free! I am so glad to have such a caring doctor and I highly recommend him .

12 months ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and happy to report am cancer free today. I opted to have my prostate removed and during the process I experienced an unavoidable situation. I experienced minor damge to my uretha and although I had options and could have avoided surgery I chose surgery to repair the the minor damage. I opted to have the surgery for one reason and one reason only, my sincere trust and confidence in Dr. Vanni. Dr. Vanni is a professional in every way that a doctor can be, but equally imporant is a man dedicated to his profession and most importantly to his patients. I was fortnate enough to have met and had doctor Vanni as my surgeon, but also so forunate to have met a true gentlemen!

Dr. Vanni successfully repaired my urethral stricture in early July. From diagnosis to post-op follow-up, he and his staff were thorough, patient, informed, and willing to solicit and answer all my questions. (It now takes me 8-15 seconds to empty my bladder instead of up to 3.25 minutes.) I come from a family of physicians, and Dr. Vannis demeanor as well as his clinical skill are what they have strived for themselves and look for in their own health care. I recommend Dr. Vanni with no reservations whatsoever.

Dr. Vanni is great, and he surrounds himself with competent, caring people. Urethral stricture was --cured-- by taking a skin graft from my cheek and rebuilding my urethra. He and his staff instill confidence, which is most helpful when one is facing a lifetime of urine drainage bags. Now, Im peeing like a --normal-- person. Thanks Dr. Vanni.

Dr Vanni performed a urethral reconstruction after I had experienced two unsuccessful procedures for BPH. The recovery was amazing and much shorter than expected because he was able to use a new procedure to save part of the damaged urethra caused by the previous surgeries. I can now sleep again and all symptoms of the BPH are gone and I can eat and drink liquids normally for the first time in 15 years

Dr. Vanni was able to do what other urologists couldnt: permanently repair my recurring urethral stricture. (In the past, I had the older failure-prone surgery which only improved the situation for a while.) I had been nervously putting off dealing with this problem again, but Im so glad that I became a Dr. Vanni patient and got this taken care of. A full year after my surgery and everything is still normal, vastly improved flow and (most importantly) nothing to worry about. Dr. Vanni is extremely well regarded and now I understand why. Im 100% impressed with him and his team, total confidence.

I just completed a one year post surgery visit with Dr. Vanni from my urethroplasty on Oct 4, 2019. And I could not be more pleased with the results. My wife and I describe this surgery as a miracle and have not had such a flow since 1977. In addition to the surgery, Dr. Vanni and his team were very professional though out the process. I highly recommend Dr Vanni to others.

Dr. Alex J. Vanni , the name for me is not just one of the best Urologists in the world buta boon from above.I was in a critical condition trapped in vicious cycle of infections and antibiotics. When i first visited Dr Vanni in 2014 for a routine visit after my multiple previous surgeries elsewhere he said --you are fixable-- but i did not give my nod at the time as i had given up on success of these surgeries but in April 2017 i went through the surgery with Dr. Alex Vanni and my life changed for the best afterwords. I cant thank Dr. Vanni enough for what he has done to give me my life back. If Dr.Vanni says you are fixable then he will do just that. I wish him great health and success from bottom of my heart. I’m a 49 years old male who was diagnosed with BPH three years earlier. I underwent Green Laser Prostate Surgery to improve my quality of life and to eliminate the BPH symptoms. I suffered a severe urethral stricture due to the improper use of the laser scope that damaged my anterior urethra. I was advised to conduct balloon catheter dilations and went for the first session which failed miserably due to the severity of the stricture. I decided to a surgeon at South Shore Hospital to obtain a second opinion. South Shore Hospital Urology Surgeon opinion was to have a urethrotomy and then be trained on self-catheterization until further notice. I did not think that was a practical solution. I was connected through a friend to an experienced Urological surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. I spoke to the surgeon on the phone and he stated that I need reconstructive emergency surgery and took it upon himself to connect me with DR Alex Vanni at Lahey Hospital, Burlington, Massachusetts. DR Vanni is a specialist in reconstructive Urological Surgery and has superior talent and skill in performing corrective surgery. I was at the lowest point in my life psychologically and was very desperate at that point. The staff at Lahey Urology Department was unbelievable and very professional. Dr Vanni conducted a urine flow gram, an ultrasound, and a Retrograde Urethrogram and was able to diagnose the location and the length of the stricture. I cannot even describe the pleasant personality and the professionalism that I experienced with DR Vanni. Immediately, the patient can notice how experienced and how knowledgeable Dr. Vanni is. Dr. Vanni then performed a urethroscope and was not able to go past the stricture also. Dr Vanni and his staff spent approximately one hour and forty five minutes with me conducting diagnostic testing to study my case. After finishing all the tests DR Vanni suggested that I undergo Anterior Anastomotic Urethroplasty to remove the stricture section in my urethra and reattach it together. I was very nervous at the time but Dr Vanni explained all the other options for me and explained the risks associated with the procedure. I went for the procedure knowing that Im risking either becoming incontinent at a very young age or have erectile dysfunction at 50. Unlike all the other Surgeons that I have seen, I felt that I’m definitely in good hands with Dr. Vanni. I left the hospital with stitched between my legs expecting a lot of bleeding and pain. I stayed home for two weeks with a catheter inserted but did not feel any pain, and to my surprise without a single drop of blood on my wound dressing. I inspected the incision a week later and was barely able to notice a scar there. At the two weeks period, I went to Lahey Hospital and had the catheter removed and was able to urinate with a normal flow rate immediately. I left the hospital and drove all the way to Plymouth and it was eight hours before I felt the need to urinate. It has been seven months since I had the surgery with Dr Vanni, Im happy to say that my flow is normal and my urges completely disappeared. I don’t wake up to urinate at night and I have no leakage or sexual dysfunction issues at all. Dr. Vanni was really there for me at the lowest points in my life and he literally gave me a new fresh chance at living a good quality life at the age of 50. Don’t bother seeing anyone else if you have similar issues, go straight to Dr. Alex Vanni at Lahey Hospital in Burlington Massachusetts. Dr. Vanni is an artist and a master at performing reconstructive surgery but he is even better at performing the initial surgeries himself instead of fixing mistakes committed by other surgeons.

Dr Vanni and his team performed urethroplasty on me 1 year ago. The results have been terrific and well beyond my expectations. I'm literally better than new. Dr Vanni and his team were very good at explaining what my problem was and what my treatment options were. They were always on time and very friendly to talk to. So very thankful we referred to Dr. Vanni. Not only a great physician and surgeon but has the easy personality to match. From our initial consultation to our last post-op follow-up he has been great to deal with. Always spoke to us on a very personal level providing information and recommendations that we were able to understand and letting us know exactly what to expect. Going through a complete urethral reconstruction was no fun but cant imagine dealing with anyone other than Dr. Vanni. Wont miss the 3 1/2-4 hour drive but w will miss Dr. Vanni but we know hes there should we need him in the future. And we wouldnt hesitate to make the drive again. Anyone with any urological issues would be well served to seek out Dr. Vanni.

Dr. Vanni did my urethroplasty 2 years ago and I could not be happier! I still crack a smile every time I pee. I had been living with a stricture for 20 years. I had 2 previous urologists attempt 3 surgeries and I thought it was something I just had to live with. My 3rd urologist referred me to Dr. Vanni and Ive been peeing like a firetruck ever since. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Vanni! I have been dealing with urethral strictures for over 30 years with many surgeries from multiple doctors that were just temporary fixes that lasted a couple years. Most urologists admittedly dont perform urethral reconstruction on a frequent enough basis to attempt it. Dr. Vanni does these procedures every day and is an absolute magician! I only wish I had found him sooner as he has changed my life. I am a year and half post op and never felt better! Go see him!!

We are so very thankful to have been referred to Dr. Vanni. Not only is he an excellent physician but has the personality to match. We always felt he was talking to us. Gave us information and recommendations without any pressure. Always felt like we had his full attention and we never felt like just one of many patients. From initial consultation to final post-op follow-ups over a 4 year period. Wont miss the long trip from VT but will miss Dr. Vanni.

Had a procedure done by Dr. Vanni. Could not have went better. Recovery time was minimal and painless. Highly recommended.... If you are having trouble urinating get it checked out!

Dr. Vanni is highly skilled at his urological areas of expertise. He is confident and self-assured, but not at all arrogant like some high caliber surgeons. He is actually genuinely kind, compassionate and down to earth. He carefully explains everything a patient needs to know to make good choices. He performed a plication correction for Peyronies Disease on me a few days ago. It is too early to see just how successful it was, but I am confident that it will turn out well. That is because Dr. Vanni told me that it went exactly as he had planned it. He had noted that the particulars of my condition were especially suited for the type of plication he did. It is clear to me that his specialties can sometimes require a bit of creative planning. I honestly don’t understand all the particulars, but I doubt seriously that just any penile surgeon would possess the insight and skill for positive outcome like Dr. Vanni does. And the amazing thing is that what he did for me is perhaps the simplest of all the procedures he performs! I feel very fortunate that my local urologist knew about Dr. Vanni when I was not responsive to the usual oral medications attempted. Peyronie’s is a psychologically distressing condition and I badly needed some hope and reassurance. Dr. Vanni gave that to me on my very first visit. He is an outstanding talent. As far as the actual hospital part (not the outpatient surgical dept) of his workplace, I must say that Lahey Hospital leaves much to be desired. My advice if you have no area relatives is to try very hard to find someone to be your designated caregiver so you don’t have to stay there overnight. They refuse to discharge patients to a taxi after an outpatient procedure. If I could do it over, I would have bit the bullet and hired someone to be with me for the needed 48 hours or so. Had I not been required to travel so far from home, it could have probably been reduced to 6 or 7 hours. Paying someone to be there to satisfy the Lahey outpatient discharge requirement will be well worth it. It will be a whole lot safer for you than an overnight stay in that hospital. That said, having Dr. Vanni as your surgeon is worth dealing with the aggravation. Just know to deal with it in advance and much better than I did.

Dr Vanni..recently performed surgery on me for a penile plication as I had been suffering with an extreme curvature to my penis due to peyronies disease!Im 7 weeks out now from my surgery and am so pleased with the amazing work he did and making my life return to normal again.His staff were so great and helpful from start to finish as I was very nervous about going under general anesthesia for the first time but the nurses were great with me and made everything so stress free..Thank you again

Dr Alex Vanni changed my quality of life. I have been dealing with Urethral Stricture for 30 years. I have seen multiple Urologist and had multiple surgeries even one bad experience. I was at a point of helplessness nothing was working and was very worried about my quality of life. My Urologist referred me to Dr Vanni a two and half hour drive away (I would have gone to the ends for this help). I was veery nervous and sceptical after all Ive been through but Dr Vanni was confident he could help me and after one of the worst cases he had seen he was correct. Im now living a normal life! I was referred to Dr. Vannai due to Urethral Stricture, Dr Vanni and his staff repaired the issue, all office visits very professional and kind. I have since returned to Dr. Vanni to have urithal spinkzter installed due to damage from prostate cancer radiation treatment. This device has been a drastic improvement especially with no more leakage. Dr. Van and his staff are all very caring, understanding and very professional. I would go no where else for any additional treatments or follow ups. I highly recommend Dr. Vanni.

It will sound almost dramatic, but Dr. Vanni changed my husbands life. My husband was living with excruciating pain, and unfortunately a new diagnosis every few months. Thankfully, he was finally referred to Dr. Vanni. He knew exactly what the problem was and scheduled corrective surgery right away. I can never thank this man and his amazing staff enough. I only wish we had found him sooner, 2 years of pain could have been avoided.

I’m a 49 years old male who was diagnosed with BPH three years earlier. I underwent Green Laser Prostate Surgery to improve my quality of life and to eliminate the BPH symptoms. I suffered a severe urethral stricture due to the improper use of the laser scope that damaged my anterior urethra. I was advised to conduct balloon catheter dilations and went for the first session which failed miserably due to the severity of the stricture. DR Vanni is a specialist in reconstructive Urological Surgery and has superior talent and skill in performing corrective surgery. I was at the lowest point in my life psychologically and was very desperate at that point. The staff at Lahey Urology Department was unbelievable and very professional. Dr Vanni conducted a urine flow gram, an ultrasound, and a Retrograde Urethrogram and was able to diagnose the location and the length of the stricture. I cannot even describe the pleasant personality and the professionalism that I experienced with DR Vanni. Immediately, the patient can notice how experienced and how knowledgeable Dr. Vanni is. Dr. Vanni then performed a urethroscope and was not able to go past the stricture also. Dr Vanni and his staff spent approximately one hour and forty five minutes with me conducting diagnostic testing to study my case. After finishing all the tests DR Vanni suggested that I undergo Anterior Anastomotic Urethroplasty to remove the stricture section in my urethra and reattach it together. I was very nervous at the time but Dr Vanni explained all the other options for me and explained the risks associated with the procedure. I went for the procedure knowing that Im risking either becoming incontinent at a very young age or have erectile dysfunction at 50. Unlike all the other Surgeons that I have seen, I felt that I’m definitely in good hands with Dr. Vanni. I left the hospital with stitched between my legs expecting a lot of bleeding and pain. I stayed home for two weeks with a catheter inserted but did not feel any pain, and to my surprise without a single drop of blood on my wound dressing. I inspected the incision a week later and was barely able to notice a scar there. At the two weeks period, I went to Lahey Hospital and had the catheter removed and was able to urinate with a normal flow rate immediately. I left the hospital and drove all the way to Plymouth and it was eight hours before I felt the need to urinate. It has been seven months since I had the surgery with Dr Vanni, Im happy to say that my flow is normal and my urges completely disappeared. I don’t wake up to urinate at night and I have no leakage or sexual dysfunction issues at all. Dr. Vanni was really there for me at the lowest points in my life and he literally gave me a new fresh chance at living a good quality life at the age of 50. Don’t bother seeing anyone else if you have similar issues, go straight to Dr. Alex Vanni at Lahey Hospital in Burlington Massachusetts. Dr. Vanni is an artist and a master at performing reconstructive surgery but he is even better at performing the initial surgeries himself instead of fixing mistakes committed by other surgeons.

South Shore Hospital Urology Surgeon opinion was to have a urethrotomy and then be trained on self-catheterization until further notice. I did not think that was a practical solution. I was connected through a friend to an experienced Urological surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. I spoke to the surgeon on the phone and he stated that I need reconstructive emergency surgery and took it upon himself to connect me with DR Alex Vanni at Lahey Hospital, Burlington, Massachusetts.
