If you are considering surgery to remove your prostate, Dr. Grollman will give you a candid assessment of your status, and a candid description of what you can expect from the surgical and recovery process. He has the experience (approximately 100 surgeries per year) and the advanced skills (he is one of 2 or 3 surgeons that perform robotic-assisted prostatectomies in New Mexico). He performed a robotic-assisted prostatectomy on me on May 9, 2017. Both Dr. Grollman and another physician observer reported to me that the 2.5 hour surgery went --very well.-- After one day in the hospital, I no longer needed the prescription pain medication. The surgery was done in a way that I had no infections after the surgery or at any time during my recovery. The catheter was removed as scheduled two weeks after the surgery. During the three weeks following the removal of the catheter, I have exceeded expectations for recovery of control over my bladder.

Saw Dr. Grollman for a kidney cancer. HE did a robotic surgery and I was out of the hospital after one night and II am cancer free now. While I was in the hospital, he was the most attentive doctor I have ever been associated with. Even though it was a Saturday afternoon, he still came to see me to make sure I was okay before I left. I would recommend him to anyone

Very confident and knowledgeable urologist who inspires confidence and provides peace of mind for his patients as they undergo prostate surgery. Thank you Dr. Grollman for all that you do! I really appreciate your professionalism and your concern about what is going on with my inability to pee and the best way to rectify that issue!

I was very impressed with Dr. Grollmans competency and his professional demeanor. He was very friendly and courteous as well. The one quality that I always look for in a doctor, or nurse for that matter, is their ability to listen well to their patients. Dr. Grollman is an excellent listener and fully understood my concerns. I feel very comfortable having him for my particular medical needs.

I met Dr. Grollman when I was in the ICU. He was caring and told me exactly what was happening with my left kidney and how he was going to take care of me. He made sure I understood what he was saying before he left the room. In pre=op he came and talked to me again and reassured me that everything would fine. Dr. Grollman also came to visit after the operation to make sure I was feeling good. I just had a follow up to have the staples removed and the staff and Dr. Grollman couldnt have made me feel more comfortable and at ease.

Dr was prompt also to the point. He made his suggestions for treatment and suggested another follow-up alternative to my earlier biopsy.

In spite of not having received (no fault of his own) image results, Dr. Grollman took the time to give me a contingency plan pending further developments. Greatly appreciated.

Dr. Grollman has taken excellent care of me with my prostate problem in the middle of pandemic. Given all the hurdles the last year has brought, he made them low and easy to get over. Almost painless surgery for partial removal of prostate with excellent result and good followup. Highly recommended.

"Dr Grollman is amazing. I had the urolift procedure with no complications. I am 66 years old and was getting up every hour or two at night plus taking medication with many side effects I didn’t like. Now I might get up only once during the night and completely off medication. Any bleeding I had went away after a couple days. The only problems I am having is pain during ejaculation.

I found Dr. Grollman to be very adept and capable. I think his threshold for stupidity, like my own is very low, hence the negative reviews. He knows what he’s doing and doesn’t need any input from the ignorant.

Dr. Grollman and the staff have always provided me with outstanding care and understanding, providing a path forward with exceptional care during the past three years.
February 07 , 2022
Dr. Grollman was very understanding of my problems and was able to evaluate and cure my symptoms where other doctors were unable to

His staff is at alb urology is not friendly like the other reviews claimed, however I realized Dr. Grollman and his staff are no nonsense, he gets to the point and did what was needed. He took the time to answer my questions. I am very happy with the end result.

Dr. Grollman has taken superb care of my husband. He is professional, caring and answers all our questions completely.

I recently was seen by Dr. Grollman for prostate cancer. The office visit was exactly as I was praying for. Dr. Grollman is a straight shooter. I was given the pros and cons of the procedure he was recommending without a bunch of hype. Just the facts. If you are looking for straight answers to your questions than I would strongly recommend seeing Dr. Grollman. I may still be on the fence on which way to go but now I have the info I need to make an informed decision. Thank you Dr. Grollman.

Dr. Grollman was friendly, thorough and an all around excellent physician. He explained everything I needed to know for my prostate surgery, paid close attention to my progress in and out of the hospital. My surgery wand qq recovery went smoothly and Im pleased with Albuquerque Urology and Womens Hospital.

Its been 6 days since my surgery and I still have not heard from Dr Grollman . Ive called his office every day. In the recovery room I was told 2 times that a machine had broken and they werent sure if the procedure was completed and that Dr. Grollman had left. UNACCEPTABLE.
September 03 , 2017
waited for over an hour to see him at appt. Then after the cystoscopy he wanted to rush out of the room and would not discuss my latest ct scan results. I was left in the dark. He did not explain my pain.

My interaction with Dr. Grollman left me angry and disappointed. He scoffed when I told him I was experiencing cramps in the area of my prostate, telling me that was impossible because the prostate isnt a muscle. It took a visit with his PA Samiul Islam to learn that the correct nomenclature for the pain I was experiencing was --spasm,-- and that there was a medication I could take to alleviate the pain I was suffering. Instead of dismissing my pain because of the lack of the proper term Dr. Grollman could have prescribed the same medication, but failed to tell me about it and left me to continue suffering; in addition he failed to inform me that there was a second, complementary diagnostic test I could take to determine if I had prostate cancer. I scheduled a biopsy with Mr. Islam when the test showed I had a 16 percent chance of cancer, but when I learned that my follow-up would be with Dr. Grollman I cancelled and found another physician who values the well-being of his patients. Dr. Grollman left me with the impression that he is tired of seeing one patient after another with maladies and conditions that have grown mundane to him, not appreciating that while he is bored of the sameness of it all they are brand new and of the utmost importance to his patients. He will never have a caring bedside manner until he recognizes this basic perception, and I would avoid seeing him until the many poor comments on this and other sites about his smugness and lack of compassion abate.

Curt and confotational. Not "How may I help you" but "Why are you here?"
I asked if he saw my sonogram "yes but I have to do my own"!
"You have to give me more information." I took out my papers and he cut me off!!! Wouldn't listen!!! Told him I fear cancer so he ordered PSA and Proscar and said "come back and see my PA in a few months"! Try one of the other urologists is my advice. I feel worse than when I went in! "F" on bedside manners.

This doctor performed a surgical procedure on me due to my urinary problems, and as a result left me entirely incontinent. He was entirely inattentive to his surgical mistakes, and completely ignored my continued complaints about the residual effects. As a result, I now have to have follow up surgeries (and PT) to treat these post operative results, all of which have now been deemed irreversible. In my opinion, this doctor is entirely incompetent. I strongly recommend you look elsewhere.

He doesnt explain anything, pushes expensive surgery and pills. Hes awfull. Stay away.
January 12 , 2013
ABRUPT, UNCARING, APATHETIC He is rude, condescending, arrogant, Spent less than 10 minutes with me. Didnt seem concerned at all about what was ailing me. Went to another urologist found I had a hydrocele, but this doctor didnt spend enough time to even try to diagnose the problem. This guy is listed as a --Preferred-- provider by CIGNA, But even the payment by the insurance company isnt enough got a bill for over $170.00 NO tests Completed, Only office visit.
November 12 , 2012
Dr Grollman made an incorrect diagnosis which would have gotten worse, even very serious. I went to another dr. who immediately correctly diagnosed my situation and performed a procedure that turned out great! I would never, never go back to Dr Grollman!
May 02 , 2019
Waited what seemed forever for a small procedure, when he finally came in, he didnt seem to care about me and was quick to answer my questions. After the procedure both nurse and doctor left the room abruptly and left me there wondering if they would return. I eventually just got dressed and left. Overall experience was pretty bad with a not so nice or helpful doctor.

I saw Dr. Grollman for the first time today and it will definitely be the last. Within the first fifteen seconds of walking into the room, he jumped down my throat about a question I asked him, treated me like I was an idiot, was rude, condescending, and I could say he was almost verbally abusive. I was in complete shock when he left the room, which was about one minute later. I spent longer walking from the parking lot to the lobby than he did with me. He is an absolute nightmare, please stay as far away from him as possible. And look at reviews that people have left on other sites for his ratings. This is apparently how he treats patients! Appalling!!!

Visit itself was fine, but the aftercare has been horrendous. He is very curt and straightforward which was fine for me, but he may not have the best bedside manner for some people. I was given a relatively expensive prescription that is covered by insurance with a prior authorization from his office. Problem is, hes been sent four separate prior authorization forms, three from insurance, one from my pharmacy, and he refuses to sign any of them. Its been a week and Im still not able to fill the prescription he gave. Im tired of waiting and will be seeking out care elsewhere.

Thankfully, I was put off from having Surgery. He said I had a mass. I had a kidney stone and a cluster of them. Thankfully I read my insurance ratings and decide to change to a more professional urologist.

Not pleased with the visit I had a few days ago. I paid my 35 copays just to sit in his room for 2mins and be sent out the door I told him I had pain and he said I'll be your Dr. see you next year in Aug. You're not due for an examination until Aug of next year Hopefully my pain can hold on till next Aug.

I choose not to have a follow up visit due to his bad manners
December 16 , 2014
"He did a quick invasive test of the prostate that left me in severe pain and inability to urinate a few days later. The pain grew worse after a few days and I contacted his office to get medication or something to help but he did not contact me following several calls and messages sent to him through the medical center. The pain is finally easing up 9 days later but still he has not not contacted ..."

I have not ever been treated so poorly by a doctor. He had not read my charts before my visit and had no idea what treatments I had had before this visit. It was a surprised to him when I told him I had been in Urgent Care and the ER to treat my condition over the last month and two weeks. I was in his office 10 minutes while he preformed two invasive tests. He was in a big hurry! Afterwards he gave NO explanation . . . you have this condition . . and said there is only one option. He then turned and ask . . . "Do you have any questions"? This all happened while he was inserting a catheter up my penis!
My overall experience with the Lovelace Healthcare system has not been good. I will never go back to Dr. Grollman nor will I use Lovelace again. I will get a different Urologist and healthcare provider!

November 13 , 2012
This Dr spent less than 5 mins with me then told me I had to have surgery or suffer for weeks without pain medication. He never spoke to me before the surgery and left right after and left no discharge instructions. He is condescending and rude and made me feel like I was bothering him if I had questions. He then wouldnt sign me over to someone else in his office. I went out of network for a better Dr.

Got an emergency appt with his PA due to large blocking kidney stones.. His pa scheduled surgery for day after, never met him, she wouldnt listen to me about pain meds.. Met him 5 minutes before surgery.. Never talked to him after.. He called the ppl who were waiting for me instead of actually talking to them.. The surgery was more painful than I ever dreamed of and the post op nurses couldnt get ahold of him because they thought I should be admitted.. I ended up just leaving and I still havent heard from him or his office... I will never deal with him again.. With kidney stones .. Pain is an issue you deal with a long with the condition ..
November 30 , 2015
Worst experience I have ever had with a Dr. He was incredibly condescending, argumentative..... He did not take any vitals, do an examination or even wish to see hospital records, did not offer any diagnosis, recommend any treatment plan, nothing.

"Find another doctor don’t waste your time or money. Find a doctor that will find what the issue is. I don’t think he reads charts or information in the computer. Acts like your bothering him. Does not treat elderly well. Don’t Take your love ones too him."
July 09 , 2021
Dr. Grollman didnt really seem to care much about my condition. After my first visit I wrote him a letter detailing what I thought might be the cause of my problem, but when I went in for the follow-up he said he hadnt read it. If you just want a quick prescription for Viagra hell be fine, but anything more in-depth I think you should go elsewhere.
July 31 , 2015
I had an appointment with Dr Andrew Grollman. The appointment was the fastest medical appointment I have ever had. I'm uncertain whether that is good or bad. I subsequently messaged Dr Grollman through MyChart twice and he didn't respond at all. I also had a minor procedure that was supposed to get scheduled but Laura in his office gave me a rather unpleasant runaround with my insurance. I got on a three-way phone call with her and my insurance and my insurance assured her that I was covered and did not need prior authorization/certification. After that, Laura no longer answered calls from my insurance company or myself so the procedure never happened. VERY unprofessional and very poor patient care. I am a healthcare provider myself so this was quite disappointing.

I echo the sentiments of the other patients who felt he was rude, arrogant, and dismissive. He seemed to be surprised that I asked questions and never followed up after having done two surgeries on me. My husband asked if he should follow up with the doctor after my surgery to report how I was doing and the doctor said --no.--
May 11 , 2016
A very rude and insensitive person who obviously does not even like himself. No bedside manner and unworthy of being called a physician
September 29 , 2020
He is very rude
December 24 , 2014
He is rude, condescending, arrogant and seems to just be a miserable person all around. The office that he works at is very good so I am very curious as to why he is still with that practice. His character (or lack there of) is not a good reflection on the rest of the staff.

I had symptoms of a urinary tract infection. First test (with my primary care doc) came back positive. One round of antibiotics did not fix the problem. Same symptoms; different antibiotic. Second test came back negative. From what I read, 1 out of every 5 cultures can come back with a false negative. When I still had symptoms, I went to Dr. Grollman. He ordered a CT scan with contrast. When I asked him to run the culture again before we do the scan, he refused and with a rather smug expression said, you dont have an infection. When I asked how he knew, he said it was because the second test came back negative. When I said that they sometimes do come back negative and wouldnt it be better to re-test before the costly CT scan, just to be safe, he completely ignored me and told me to get the CT scan and come back in 2 weeks to see his MA. Rude, smug and dismissive. Would definitely not recommend him.
October 18 , 2019
Doesnt listen, even to his own findings. I filled out the silly sheet concerning bladder function. From my answers, he diagnosed an enlarged prostate, even though I was clear the sheet didnt cover my case. The last thing he did was a prostate exam. That exam determined my prostate wasnt enlarged yet he did not change his diagnosis. I ended up with prescriptions specific to enlarged prostate that dont work for anything else. I did a bit of research and it is clear in the literature that his approach is 100% wrong. If I were less apathetic, Id follow up with the New Mexico Medical Board. Note, I gave the staff and punctuality one star because they influence the overall review and this review is about the doctor. The staff and his punctuality were actually fine.
