Was assigned Dr Wuerstle she lets you know what to expect what ever you decide to do about cancer. she recommended Dr Isariyawongse as surgeon and was in there with him for the surgery. they were not prepared for the complications and ended up over 7 hours on table. I expected to have one or both come in the next morning to go over what happened. neither one showed up. and some other doc came in and had no idea what happened. instead of being only over night ended up 4 days in hospital and then 4 days home ended up in emergency with more compactions. as result left me feeling like something went wrong and all my confidence with both doctors I lost. I wouldnt recommend either one to any one having prostate cancer in Kaiser.

Really poor experience overall with Kaiser San Diego Urology. Honestly, dealing with this entire department has been the worst medical experience in my life. It is very difficult to get an appointment and they try to push you off to phone visits whenever they can. Doctors seem all about quickly moving patients through their clinic rather than taking time to explain things and have a discussion. Also, the “next available service technician” model this department uses is very bad for continuity of care when you have a serious illness. Sure, it’s great for Kaiser but bad for patients. This is not Jiffy Lube…these are people’s lives. I liked him better than some of the other doctors but, unfortunately, that’s not saying much.

Dr. Isariyawongse was one of the better urologists I’ve seen at Kaiser. I would definitely see him again. However, my experiences with this department in general for the first five months in 2022 was probably the worst medical experience of my entire life. I’ve posted specific details in my Yelp reviews for Dr. Isariyawongse as well as his associate Dr. Matthew Lux. (The overall experience with the department is why I gave Dr. Isariyawongse 2 stars. I’d probably give him 4 stars but his “team” and how Kaiser forces him to practice is really bringing him down.) My experience of the department and how it is run is similar to those posted on other sites such as Google Reviews. The department seems to be disorganized and disjointed with the prime focus on seeing high patient volume rather than providing compassionate, quality patient care. Very difficult to get appointments, absurd wait times with scheduling and then they try to push whatever they can to a phone visit. When you do get to interact with a physician, they spend as little time with you as possible, don't discuss options or explain things. Zero compassion at all…factory medicine at its ‘finest’. Cancer sucks. Getting a diagnosis of cancer from Kaiser Permanente San Diego Urology makes it so much worse. I love my current Kaiser PCP as well as my Kaiser Medical Oncologist. But, my experience with this department was dismal on many levels from scheduling and receiving care to even getting reasonable replies on emails or requests from the nursing staff. While I like Dr Isariyawongse, I absolutely will never recommend Kaiser Permanente to anyone because of multiple bad experiences with the staff in this department. My experience with KP San Diego Urology reinforces the concept many people have about how you definitely don’t want Kaiser if you have a serious medical condition. I think that is a peculiarity with this department because my experience with KP San Diego Oncology has been outstanding. I also know there are physicians in other Kaiser departments who do care and spend time with their patients. Again, I think this is a problem within KP San Diego Urology. For the sake of other people, I hope Kaiser makes some major changes in this department to address these issues. You shouldn’t feel like just another “case being processed” when dealing with any health issue, let alone when dealing with a serious diagnosis like cancer.
