I took my little boy to this doctor after many trips to the doctor and ER. They could not find out what was wrong with him, and then just send him home. I was referred to Dr. Schaeffer, he was able to tell me what was wrong and done surgery on him to correct his problem. He was days from death that this point. He saved his life and I am forever grateful. He is blunt and to the point, he does not waste time. It has been 5 years since his surgery, Dr. Schaeffer done an excellant job, his scare is barely there. He has had no troble since this surgery. I highly recommend this doctor!

Our grandson spent seven hours at UK emergency and received no diagnosis after being examined by six different people and an ultra sound. Dr Schaefer made the correct diagnosis in five minutes. The office arranged an appointment in 24 hours because of the urgency.

Dr Schaeffer treated our son. He was excellent, listened to our questions and answered, was patient and the procedure was successful. Minimal to no scarring. We are very thankful for him.

CAUTION: Unfortunately, zero stars isn’t an option. We were referred to Dr Schaeffer by our pediatrician for a circumcision. This couldn’t be done at birth due to swelling. My son is 3 months old, and we wanted to have this procedure done, so we were referred here. I spoke to multiple people in the office on several occasions (scheduling circumcision, confirming Appt, asking if anything needed to be done ahead of time before the surgery) and not one of those individuals thought to explain that the appointment wasn’t the surgery, it was simply the consultation. So we arrive and pay $100 (we are self pay) and wait to see the doctor. We get back to see Dr Schaeffer and he looked at his clipboard with no eye contact while blurting out questions. We proceeded to answer those. He then asked for us to lay our son out so he could examine him. He did so, and then proceeded to say “well, since this surgery requires general anesthesia, this can’t be completed until he is 5 months old, and since he will probably have baby fat by then, we shouldn’t do this surgery until he is 18 months old. Which this gives you ample time to think about it before doing it because really, the world is moving away from circumcisions. What’s the point in putting your son through a surgery that he doesn’t medically need, I mean, circumcisions are really just based on religious or cultural beliefs anyhow.” After we said we would just wait until he was 18 months, the doctor walked to the window and was muttering random words under his breath, then walked out of the room without saying anything about where we should go to check out, thanks for stopping by, good to meet you, nothing. Just walked out. I was APPALLED. I couldn’t believe that this doctor felt like he had the right to throw his personal opinion/beliefs on us, and simultaneously make us feel like our personal opinions or beliefs are uneducated, without moral basis, and wrong. I am filing a grievance with Baptist Health Lexington regarding this doctor. He was operating and speaking outside of a physicians code of ethics in my opinion, and he CERTAINLY won’t be seeing my son EVER again. Not to mention, ha, how could I forget, how unprofessional the office staff was at the end of our visit. The check out lady was laughing with her coworkers (nothing wrong with that) then finally realized we were waiting for her to check us out, and she said hang on a minute, I’m trying to send a fax. 2-3 minutes later she looks at our paperwork, and says that our son doesn’t need to be seen for 18 months and we can only schedule 12 months out so we will call you when we get closer. Good thing they couldn’t schedule it because we sure won’t be back. How unprofessional and honestly, if I was running that office, I would be severely embarrassed. What a waste of time and money.
