I visited Dr. Tarnay regarding a diagnosis of fibroids. He was very thorough, put me at ease and explained everything in easy to understand terms. I was very confident in his expertise and experience.

Dr. Tarnay by far is one of the best doctors I’ve ever encountered. Not only he is top notch in his field, he is so humble, empathetic, kind, patient and well mannered with his patience. I was terrified about my surgery, he took all the time I needed to explain my options. He answered every question I had thoroughly. He made me feel so important and valuable as a human being. His performance as a surgeon was outstanding that I had no pain 24 hours post surgery. He called me multiple times post surgery to check up on me, not to mention that he visited me with his team in the evening to check up on me the night I spent in the hospital. I honestly can’t say enough things about him, but this Doctor is an angel. May His hands be always blessed!

Dr Tarnay by the grace of God gives results. Yes, he is a busy doc but is worth the wait. I have lied with embarrasing incontinence for a while even after a prior unsuccessful surgery. My regular doctor referred me to him as he is known to fix complications. I live in Santa Barbara are but he is work the drive to see. Dr Tarnay sat for quite a while with me and my husband to explain my condition and his plan. I appreciated that he did not talk above us. Recovery is never easy especially with my already anxious personality but he responded to all my email and text after surgery and was attentive. The hand holding helps. That was over a year ago and I am thrilled to say I am no longer incontinent. I have referred him to my friend who just had a robot procedure done with him which I think I was not candidate for. She is so happy with the results. Just grateful for Dr Tarnay and his team for their care.

Dr. Tarnay is an amazing doctor. I went to him as a last resort when all other doctors stated that they could no longer treat me and would not listen to me. He listened to my concerns and took a thorough medical history. With input from me, we came up with a surgery plan (only doing what is absolutely necessary) and post surgery plan, explaining everything, answering all questions, and making sure that I no longer had any answer. He is not afraid to state when he does not know something and will come to the next appointment with the answer. You can tell that he is thinking and analyzing as he is talking to you, listening and taking in new information and incorporating it into his plan. Because of him, I am no longer in pain after over 7 years. He is very skilled and knowledgeable. I am very happy I found him and had him as my surgeon. He is my angel.

I would give Dr Tarnay more than a 5-Star if I could for fixing a problem that I had silently suffered with for too long. I am no longer incontinent and able to live and do normal activities again. I was referred to him and though the wait is a bit long, he was caring every step of the way and even responded quickly to my texts. Dr Tarnay is an an expert in his field and is amazing.

I debated writing this... but I felt that other women need to be aware. I had a major prolapse repair several months ago. Very painful repair. The pain medication I was given had serious interactions. When I voiced my concerns, I was denied pain medication and told to take over the counter Tylenol. I was in shock. I needed this major repair and now I was incapacitated with no pain relief. None. I was punished because the drugs that were prescribed were listed in my patient file as do not give. Luckily my pharmacist caught the mistake. The interaction would have been fatal. His resident was a large part of the problem. I am victim of trauma which is a large part as to why I needed the surgery. Thank you for violating me all over again and dehumanizing me. Most of all I suffered in pain. No pain medication after a major abdominal surgery is unreal. This was a horrible experience. Wanting to have post operative pain managed appropriately is not unreasonable. It is most defined cruel and inhuman. And on top of it, the mesh is causing me misery. My doctor at another prominent hospital says that it needs to be revised. Failure to provide any pain medication caused me intense pain, I was unable to sleep. Just go to Cedar’s ladies.

He was very rushed and impatient. No regulation examining chair with styrups for feet. I had to lay on a very narrow bench - only room for body and feet and wanted me at very end - kept rudely saying “MORE”!!! Ended up looking like a grasshopper and no paper to protect me from dirty bench. I felt I could fall off. I had just had both knees replaced so they were hurting. He never said why I was in that position - he spoke no words to me. Just silence. THEN I FELT THE WORST PAIN I HAD EVER FELT IN MY LIFE!! I SCREAMED THE LOUDEST I HAVE EVER SCREAMED AND SCREAMED JUST AS LOUDLY “WHAT ARE YOU DOING”?? He only said that he was checking to see if I had any retention -HE DID NOT APOLOGIZE FOR CAUSING ME SUCH PAIN. He hadn’t told me ahead of this that he was going to penetrate my body. I am a retired R.N. and have catheterized women and know the proper procedure. He jammed a non lubricated metal into my dry, thin and smaller urethra with excessive force. He stood up and said to the woman in whites by his side “there’s nothing here for me” - then he rushed out the door - not one word to me. I was trying to push back and sit up because I had come there to ask some questions only. This was a year ago, i was 84.Having PTSD still.BAD MD

Poor bedside quality and sloppy. Little follow through with complication and difficulty to get ahold of him after surgery. Poor staff and front desk personal are very unprofessional. Turned the lights out and let me wait in the dark for my appointment without saying anything to me. Bad Doctor...sloppy and residents and fellows do the surgery with him.

I had a previous major surgery at UCLA in 2008 on my cervical spine. Had low heart rate after & was in ICU for a day - due to anesthesia. I have low low BP as well. In 2012 Dr. Tarnay (UCLA) did a prolapse surgery with mesh. I told him & his surgery coordinator to MAKE SURE I was taken care of during this new surgery because of the low BP & heart rate and let the anesthesiologist know this! Well, so much for that because during the surgery I woke up: For 30 min and I could not move! I could hear everyone talking, feel the burning of the laser from the da vinci Robot, hear the machine and it hovering over me, & feel the sucking of my uterus (which didn't need to be removed, but at the time Tarnay said it was common practice to do so- since then this is NOT done) I was in shock as the surgery is happening, and after 30 min. I prayed to move my head. When I did - someone said: SHE'S MOVING! Then I was out again. Upon waking I said: I COULD FEEL IT! After meeting with the main anesthesiologist, she said the resident anesthesiologist made a mistake: he thought I had Malignant Hyperthermia (1-60,000 people have this serious condition). I do not have this. If they had even read my previous surgery anesthesia report (2008 at UCLA -same hospital!) they would have seen this! Looking at this new anesthesia report I could see it was exactly 30 min. that I was awake (what is interesting is that I could tell how long it was while I was in the actual surgery and when I talked to the main anesthesiologist again she said yes - that would have been the time you were awake.) The next day Tarnay's assistant came to check on me and they did not even know it happened! One day later! PTSD!!! Then, Tarnay stitched one port hole in my belly too DEEP! My skin was stretched and pulling so hard I thought it would rip! Three weeks later I had to go in and do a revision to that mistake! PTSD!!! Still have crazy nightmares... Now this week, I am going in to a Dr at Cedar's because I need a revision! Tarnay did not go far enough down to fix my original problem! I knew this soon after the initial surgery that he had not done it right. It's not unusual for a woman to need a revision after maybe 10yrs. but he definitely did not do a good job overall! Long story short - not impressed. All these years later I still have the shakes, nightmares, and PTSD! All I can say is: Where was the anesthesiologist when my BP dropped 50 points in 30 minutes! And where was Tarnay? Did he not see my BP dropping? Find another dr! (resident anesthesiologist who screwed me over is now a dentist...)
