If you want a “CAN DO” doctor, then you’ll want to chose Dr. Baldwin as your Urologist. When he says he can fix the problem, he will. Dr. Baldwin is the most competent and hardest working doctor that I’ve met. R C and PM

I was referred to Dr Baldwin by other urologists who didnt want to handle my case. Despite unexpected complications, Dr Baldwin didnt bail out on me. I am very happy with the result.

I had robotic surgery with Dr. Baldwin to remove a small tumor on my kidney. Ive been a patient of his for a while, with frequent visits and enough experience with other physicians at the same hospital to have an accurate comparison base. Sadly, if I am to be honest, I find Dr. Baldwin to be abrasive, short-tempered and unwilling to compromise with me regarding any alternative method I might suggest. I feel battered verbally by him - his bedside manner is atrocious. He always seems like hes in a hurry during office visits and that I, as the patient, am just a nuisance, like a buzzing fly, and something to be --put up with-- so he can get to the real --patient--, which is my kidney. He speaks down to me, dismisses me quickly and makes me feel like a child who asks stupid questions. I am almost 50 years old. I dont feel he has much of a sensor - as he has, on at least 3 occasions - blurted out whatever he was thinking in his head, scaring me to death until the results of whatever procedure came back. Ex: he sputtered out that he was sure a mass in my liver was metastasized tumors from the Cervical area & left me reeling, thinking every day that I was about to be handed a death sentence for 3 full weeks until the result of the biopsy showed 100% benign. He never apologized for his hasty statement or for frightening me - he acted like the good result was just another day in the lab for him. He has said several other things just like this, frightening me several times and leaving me in grave fear. On another occasion, he also told me I was probably in full kidney failure and wed just have to wait to see until 4 more days when the blood results came back. You can imagine my terror for the next 4 days. BTW, the results were negative, and I never even received a call from Dr. Baldwin to let me know either way - I had to call in myself several days later after not hearing from anyone and talk to a nurse on duty. If I were a physician and assumed there was something horribly wrong and/or life-threatening to my patient, I would think the thoughtful, caring protocol would be to keep it to myself and run the tests to make sure I was accurate - *NOT* to fill the patients head with absolute terror that they are dying and/or will be requiring dialysis and a kidney transplant without even having any test results to fall back on!Just prior to my surgery, the nurses and anesthesiologist came in to talk with me and to review with me their form of treatment. They were kind and we joked around. I wanted to stay light & positive. Dr. Baldwin came in, abrupt and abrasive as always, said some clipped comments to me about No, I couldnt have the medicine protocol I was asking for, turned on his heel and left. After my surgery, hes continued to treat me in an abrasive and rude manner. Im absolutely baffled, as I am a lovely person who is a favorite among my other treating physicians, because I am a very compliant patient who understands my conditions thoroughly, follows their regimen and treats everyone with kindness. My family, who generally goes to appointments with me and doesnt have a bad word to say about anyone, dislikes him intensely as well. As part of the person I am, I absolutely need a physician who is kind and caring, who takes time with me, who explains my condition carefully and makes me feel heard and appreciated. Its just part of what makes me who I am and its what I need. I understand Dr. Baldwin to be outstanding in the surgical capacity, but thats not all I look for in a treating physician. Simply being a good surgeon but treating me badly whenever we have any interaction does not encompass the --whole package-- for me as a patient, ESPECIALLY when we are dealing with life-threatening illnesses. Compassion, kindness and a sense of humor are absolute musts for me when Im facing a battle for my life. It is a priority to surround myself with loving, positive people so I can heal more quickly. I dont consider Dr. Baldwin to be any of these things, and it saddens me to have to write a review like this. He may be the perfect surgeon for someone else who doesnt mind his abrasive manner, but not for me. I find him offensive, aloof and uncaring.I hope, if you are suffering, you find a caring and compassionate physician to attend to you. My next step is to find other patient reviews online, much as this one, to find someone else to continue my care with. God Bless you and take care!

I agree totally with comments posted by another patient. Dr. Baldwin is very abrasive, has horrible bedside manner, and treats his patients like they are children. He often spoke down to me and treated me like a child, making me repeat his directions, etc. I am interested to learn that I am not the only one that has been treated this way.
