I first met Dr Portela when I was in the hospital as he was the DR. on duty. He seemed so caring. When other doctors had said there was nothing they could do for me, he assured me that there were things we could try.
I asked if he would be my Urologist right then.
At my first office visit he was 45 minutes late (11:00 appointment, he opened the door at 11:45) which was frustrating, but then he started asking about me (the person) and my history with my condition. All of a sudden I realized it was after 1 0'clock...I believe he gave up his lunch time to talk with me.
I immediately realized why he was so late...He gets completely engrossed in the patient before me he was with and sometimes that may be frustrating for the next person, but what a wonderful thing to find in doctor today! Someone who wants to listen!
2 stars for being late, but 8 stars for being so passionate about his patients.
Be patient with him and you will have the best care you have ever had.

If someone knows what is he doing, is Dr. Portela. Very accurate with his diagnostics, explains clear and his treatments are to the point and work the best. He has showed a high human quality. His nurses and office staff work with him as a team. All fine people to take care of my illness. Thank you all

Dr Portella is an amazing Doctor. One of the most talented doctors I've ever met. Compassionate, trustworthy, smart and knows how to fix the problem. He saved my life back in 2007 and I will forever be grateful! I highly recommend Dr. Portella.

Doc spent less than 3 minutes with me in pre-op. Was there on time as I was his only surgery at that facility. Strictly business guy that didn’t relate well to me in pre-op (nor did the ARROGANT Anesthesiologist that wanted to get out of there) Dr. Portela was nice and kind to my wife as she waited for me the whole time. Good people in the Surgical Center especially the nurses. They have hard jobs but, are the best with patients and families!!!! Too bad Doctors think the world revolves around them.

I am a MD and a prior patient of this doctor. you cant get to see the Dr and his pa is incompetent. they put my life at risk with medication that conflict with mine and did not warn me. they scheduled my for a procedure on a piece of equipment that was not operational. taking me off blood thinners and putting my life at risk. they do not return phone calls.

This is by far the worst doctors office I have ever been to. After booking my appointment over the phone for the specific purpose of getting a letter written, three weeks later and I still don't have a letter. When arriving to the office I had to wait 30 minutes to be seen. Dr. Portela said he needed to run some tests on me and that he would write everything down and he would have his assistant write up the letter I needed. After emailing his assistant the requirements she was confused and could not type the letter up. He basically ran up a bill and didn’t complete what he promised would be completed.
I had to make another appointment to speak to the doctor to have him write up the letter. I show up for the second appointment and I wait 40 minutes to be told he will not write a letter. They give me a copy of their reports showing false information and will not even fix the false information.
They doctor says he will not even see me even though I have an appointment. Lacks integrity.

Although he is a good doctor, there is really no way of finding out the lab results because it's hard to speak to the nurse. I called to schedule a follow up and it took close to 45 minutes to talk to the receptionist, who was giving me attitude. Changing Doctors.

"I have never met a more unprofessional and uncaring excuse for a doctor in my life. After arriving for a scheduled appointment immediately after the office lunch break, we were told that the doctor had not yet returned from lunch. Fifty minutes later, I approached front desk staff only to be told that he had not returned and his whereabouts were unknown and there was no ability to contact him. I questioned ..."

Avoid at all costs.
1. The staff never returns calls.
2. Still waiting on a doctor's note (been over a month now and many calls asking for such).
3. Was in hospital for a week and Portela never showed up once.
4. Unless you speak Spanish, you'll have a hard time at the office.
Portela's office is a meat market ... seems to cycle in "low-budget" patients.
The single most horrible doctor-related experience of my life.
