I have been treated by Dr Kaufman for 19 years after my ob/GYN reviewed an article he authored regarding interstitial cystitis, a relatively unknown disorder often incorrectly diagnosed as cystitis. I underwent countless unnecessary cystoscopies and suffered constant pelvic pain. Nothing is more debilitating than pain compounded by the failure to diagnose the cause. Dr Kaufman has seen me through IC as well as pelvic floor dysfunction which onset subsequent to colon surgeries. He is an honest and sincerely caring physician and he goes above and beyond in caring for his patients. If you require a urologist for any reason , run don’t walk to Dr Kaufman.

went for 10 months unable to aquire diagnosis,was told everything from its all in your head to well need to do exploratory surgery.I was lucky enough to be sent to a surgeon who referred me to dr.kaufman.I was diagnosed by dr kaufman with pelvic floor disfunction,given the proper medications and sent to therapy.this man gave me my life back.I was treated with dignity and respect as well as compassion.He took the time to explain my condition to me as well as my husband and has continued to return emails to me with any concerns I may have.I am greatful to have him as my physician and would highly recommend him to family and friends.

I have been seeing Dr. Kaufman for almost 30 years. He is extremely competent technically. But even more important to me is how thorough he is; he takes copies notes by hand as he listens to my symptoms. He then suggests treatments with total candor and a refreshing wit. Even when the treatment or medications I have to take might not be all that pleasant I leave the office feeling positive, uplifted. He relaxes his patients. Dr. Kaufman gave me the diagnosis and explained my options very clearly and kindly. New York is full of mediocre, uncaring doctors - Dr. Kaufman is not one of them. Recommended!

I have been a patient for more than 10 years. He is very direct, knowledgable, and responsive. He has performed various tests including cystoscopy and prostate biopsy. As uncomfortable as these were, he was comforting and quick. I like that he sends your results by email. If I ever have questions, I can email him and I always get a response quickly. I feel very fortunate to be in his care.

I was seen very quickly - excellent customer service. I really appreciated how much Dr Kaufman listened to all of my symptoms, experiences and concerns. He was upfront and very clear with his analysis and conclusions.

Dr Kaufman was the first urologist to recognize my condition as an infection and was willing to explain, run tests and perform treatments while other urologists basically threw their hands up and said I don’t know. He will get to the bottom of your situation and you should not waste time with anyone else. I just wish I would have seen him earlier. I would highly reccomend him if you have any sort of urologic issue.

I thought the office was very professional and Dr. Kaufman made me feel very comfortable with the visit. He also explained everything to me and answered all my questions. The staff was also very informative and friendly. Overall it was a very good experience for me and I highly recommend Dr. Kaufman.

I was diagnosed with I.C. in 2009 (by a different urologist) and was told that I.C. wasn’t curable and that I’d be on Elmiron for the rest of my life. My first urologist prescribed Elmiron and suggested alterations to my diet. I was doing fine with the present treatment but occasionally I would have flares that were difficult to shake. In 2014 I moved to New York and sought out Dr. Kaufman because of his reputation for being an I.C. expert. He listened to my symptoms and thought that I may actually have been misdiagnosed. Dr. Kaufman diagnosed pelvic floor dysfunction and vulvodynia, adjusted my medications to reflect the new diagnosis and referred me to a physiotherapist. The pelvic floor physio turned out to be a big piece of the healing puzzle for me. With Dr. Kaufman’s insight I am on my way to feeling healthy, happy, and Elmiron-free.

About 3 years ago, I was passed around from one doctor to another and unable to get help from an extremely painful condition. Dr. Kaufman spent not only a massive amount of time analyzing my symptoms and their cause, but also explaining the plan of action to me and the way of preventing it from happening in the future. Fast forward to a few months ago, he has helped me yet again with a medical matter. Subsequently, this week, he went out of his way to email me back and forth to check on me and make sure that I had the necessary medicine and support I needed. This is the ONLY doctor who has ever gone out of his way to do something like that and I know that he applies the same standard to all of his patients. He is incredibly smart with a world-class expertise. More importantly, he is respectful, calm, and treats patients as his partners and not --customers--. He is outstanding. Lastly, his staff is always polite, helpful, and accommodating. You will be in the best hands if you go to him!

Over the years I have learned that not all Urologists are created equal which is why I cannot stop singing the praise of Dr. David M. Kaufman because, simply stated, I never expected or imagined that a Doctor (with a capital D) like Dr. Kaufman still exists. Dr. Kaufman is always available which in itself is rare these days but when I received an email from him telling me that --Right now I am in the Amazon jungle; trying to help the local people-- and then proceeded to give me advice I just could not believe it! He even solved my problem right there from his tent; just being bitten earlier that day by either a Scorpion or whatever hellish creature lurked around his tent. Dr. Kaufman is truly remarkable and makes himself always available to his patients; and his knowledge is superb which is why I cannot praise him enough! From Louise Galembo.

Outstanding urologist who has helped me over the years in dealing with pelvic pain from pelvic floor dysfunction. Was particularly helpful when my case was further complicated by some abdominal surgery which irritated and worsened my pelvic floor symptoms. He provided help, a realistic treatment plan and hope while I was going through some tough times. Excellent.

Ive been seeing Dr. Kaufman for five years to treat my interstitial cystitis and am happy to say he has long since gotten me to a point where I am pain free except for a very rare flare-up. He was the only doctor who understood what was going on when I first began suffering from this condition, and the only doctor with the expertise to handle it. If you live in the New York area and youre dealing with IC, Dr. Kaufman is the only urologist you should see. He is up to date on the latest treatments and studies, and wont waste time with solutions that wont work. In terms of bedside manner, he is blunt but compassionate. If I have an emergency flare, his office is always able to accommodate me, which I really appreciate.

Dr. Kaufman is very caring. It may not seem so at first, but if you pay attention you will see that maintains a concern for the patient. He is also knowledge and precise. Plus, he has a sense of humor.

I have found Doctor Kaufman to be conscientious and caring, and, from my first appointment with him, an excellent communicator, explaining my condition and its treatment clearly and precisely. His expertise gives me a sense of confidence I havent had when working with other urologists. He is personable and excellent in following up after appointments with test results and information. I also find his office to be well-organized and efficient. I would give Doctor Kaufman my highest recommendation.

He is really good. I have gone to him over several years with a variety of issues. He really knows his stuff and takes time to explain the problem and the next steps. Perhaps of most importance, the treatments have been effective which is a real blessing since he problems were quite disruptive. Also has a prompt and efficient office. Glad he is my doctor.

I was sent to Dr. Kaufman from another highly acclaimed doctor due to the severity of my Interstitial Cystitis. Im from Alabama and Im an attorney. Due to my IC I was completely lost when I first met with Dr. Kaufman. Its b/c of him that Im progressing to finding myself, again, and feeling much better than I have in years. I was born with Kidney Reflux Disease and also battle numerous chronic conditions, I was unaware of until I met with Dr. Kaufman for the first time, but he was calm and knowledgeable. He would not let me give up on myself or succumb to my illnesses. Hes not only my doctor, hes my friend. As for his office staff, you wont find a better group of people. They welcomed this southern girl with open arms and have rallied behind my progress ever since. Dr. Kaufman is unlike any doctor Ive ever met before b/c he truly cares for not only his work, but his patients, and he doesnt restrict himself from those patients. From the time my feet touched the pavement in New York until I met Dr. Kaufman for the first time, I was unsure about so much, but he calmed my nerves and has done everything possible to help me to find relief from all of the conditions I suffer from. Thankfully, he was able to treat me for all of them, and he has worked well with my doctors at home to ensure they are doing what they should and following his instruction. If it wasnt for Dr. Kaufman, I would still be the lost, young attorney trying to figure out how to feel better. I highly recommend Dr. Kaufman to anyone who is suffering from IC or any other conditions in his realm of knowledge, I strongly encourage you to reach out to him. If he doesnt know the answer or cant help you, he will send you to the best he knows of, which is what he had to do for me, also b/c he couldnt treat that specific condition as rigorously as it needed to be treated. Dr Kaufman is a wonderful doctor, very helpful and always available to speak to you by e-mail if you have a questions. Easy to get an appointment and the office staff is always helpful and efficient.Dr Kaufman took me in his office the next morning after I e-mail him the night before and told him I was in a lot of pain. I would definitely recommend him to my friends and family.

Dr Kaufman is amazing! He is kind and puts you at ease. Goes over your medical history and actually listens and is not rushing to push you out the door. What is also great is you can reach out to him via email and he quickly replies. I overheard a patient say all kinds of nice things about him and thought to give him a try.....I was surprised that this doctor actually does care about his patients.

Dr. David Kaufman is genuinely a nice guy and a great doctor. Since my very first appointment, I felt very welcomed and instantly felt comfortable discussing my symptoms. Upon discussion, Doc instantly diagnosed my issues and recommended specific treatment / medicine that would help. Three weeks later for my post follow up, I had greater results than imagined. In addition, if I ever had questions or needed a refill on my prescriptions, Dr. Kaufman would instantly answer my questions online and/ or submit the prescription to my pharmacy. I definitely recommend Dr. Kaufman to those seeking a great Urologist and a great person to open up too.

I have been going to Dr Kaufman for 5 years and highly recommend him. He never pushes you into a decision or expensive procedure but in turn offers information and options and allows you to make a choice that works best for you. Ive had an enlarged prostate for 15 years and have been under the care of 3 other urologists. Dr Kaufman has been the best by far. I ended up having a TULP procedure and it has changed my life (for the better) and all thanks to Dr Kaufman.

Dr. Kaufman performed a vasectomy for me. He is very professional and has a friendly staff. He clearly addressed all my questions and concerns. Dr. K and his staff made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process: before, after, and especially during the procedure. Upon typing this review it has been approxiamtely 3 months since my vasectomy and I couldnt be happier with the results. I highly recommend Central Park Urology and Dr. K.

Dr. Kaufman is a wonderful doctor. He is kind, patient and he really listens to your whole story to make an accurate diagnosis. He was the only doctor who was actually able to figure out what was wrong with me and put me on a treatment plan that works. I dont know what I would have done without him.

I am so grateful for Dr. Kaufman. When I first went to see him, I had been living in pain for about a year. I had been to several doctors, all who had different (and unhelpful) diagnoses, from --hypersensitivity that will go away on its own-- to --its all in your head--. I had gotten to the point where I just didnt feel I could go on like that anymore. Dr. Kaufman was incredible. He really took the time to listen to what I had been through. He was very gentle during my exam. He came up with a treatment plan, which he explained to me step by step. After a couple of weeks, I felt so much better. And, after a month I felt normal (something I thought I would never feel again). I cant recommend Dr. Kaufman enough. He saved my life.

I have suffered from Interstitial Cystitis (IC)/Bladder Pain Syndrome (BPS) for most of my life. I tried different treatments prescribed by various Urologists but none were successful in treating my condition. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer six years ago and underwent a Mastectomy and Chemotherapy. I chose to have my breast reconstructed using the skin removed from my pelvic area. Unfortunately, this seemed to aggravate/irritate my bladder which caused my IC/BPS to become unbearable. The remedies I tried in the past no longer seemed to work. I tried other remedies that I found on-line which also did not work. Since my cancer surgeries, I desperately attempted to find a doctor/specialist who could determine a course of treatment for my condition but none were able to do so. After extensive research, and through a stroke of luck, I eventually was able to locate a Urologist (specialist/expert in the treatment of Interstitial Cystitis) - Dr. David Kaufman. Dr. Kaufman was able to thoroughly diagnose my condition and prescribed/tailored a course of treatment specific to my situation. Since being treated by Dr. Kaufman, my IC/BPS condition has greatly improved. Dr. Kaufman is a competent, kind, patient and compassionate individual who cares about his patient’s well-being. I cannot thank him enough for improving the quality of my life. I highly recommend him.

I went to Dr. Kaufman for a vasectomy. He is professional, knowledgable and has a pretty good sense of humor too. He took great care and patience in explaining the procedure to me and I knew exactly what to expect. For me the procedure was painless with slight discomfort for a few days. I have already told two of my friends that when they are ready, I have the Dr. for them.

I really appreciate Dr. Kaufmans sharp wit along with his phenomenal talent. In less than 10 minutes he diagnosed what 2 urologists, 2 gynecologists, a GI, a rheumatologist and a neurologist could not figure out. My husband and I flew in from Florida specifically to see him. Dr. Kaufman and is staff are excellent. The No Scalpel procedure was done in less than 20 minutes and no pain at all. I highly recommend Dr. Kaufman for this procedure. Hes very down to earth and will answer all of your questions. He doesnt pressure you either way and he genuinely cares for his patients.

Dr. Kaufman is amazing. After seeing several urologists, I was desperate for answers. He listened, did a pelvic exam (the first urologist to do so!) and proposed a concrete plan of action. He was also the only doctor to recommend pelvic floor therapy, which did wonders for me. I am forever grateful.

Dr. Kaufman is an excellent urologist. He got to the bottom of a problem(frequent urination) that I had been suffering with for a long time. I would highly recommend him. He is the only doctor I have worked with who responds to emails even on the weekend. I would never go anywhere else.

Dr Kaufman is the best Urologist in NYC. I was dealing with a debilitating prostate disorder and saw 5 urologists before him. He immeadiately realized it as an infection and treated it as such. He took the time to explain/run testing and prescribe the proper treatments. He will go the extra mile for you without question. Wish I would have seen him sooner is all I can say.

I found doctor Kaufman’s services extremely helpful to our needs. My wife and I had a difficult time trying to conceive our first child. My wife went through three IUI procedures that did not work. Doctor Kaufman has recommended a varicocelectomy procedure to me after which we were able to successfully conceive our first child. I strongly recommend to anyone who is having fertility issue to go see doctor Kaufman. LM

My husband and I both visited Dr. Kaufman for separate issues. On the day of the visit and even other visits after, Dr. Kaufman was professional, knowledgeable, resourceful and owned a great sense of humor; something that is very much needed and appreciated when it comes to providing much comfort and ease within a doctors visit. I found Dr. Kaufman through these physician review sites, and I am glad to give back and recommend others to Dr. Kaufman. Dr. Kaufman performed a vasectomy on me. He provided a clear explanation of the consequences of the procedure and a detailed list of instructions for how to prepare for the procedure and recovery. The procedure itself was quick and professional. It was clear he had performed this procedure many times, and had plenty of great jokes lined up that had me and my partner laughing. I contacted Dr. Kaufman a few times after the procedure via email, and he responded within hours in a tone that matched his warm demeanor in his office. Simply put, Dr. Kaufman is one of the most professional and personable doctors I have ever met. Dr. Kaufman is far above and beyond almost every doctor I have seen in my life, and I full heartedly recommend him.

I went to see Dr. Kaufman all the way from the Middle East back in 2011 and I have been referring back to him ever since. After seeing so many doctors about this one problem I had, and most of them telling me I have IC, or its in my head, or some even telling me I needed surgery, Dr. Kaufman was able to diagnose me and put me on the road to recovery. What I appreciate about him is that he doesnt put you through a ton of unnecessary tests. He is very prompt in replying back to my emails, and is always there when I need him. I cannot thank him enough for his help and support.

When I went to see Dr. Kaufman I had been in severe pain for 5 months, seen 3 different doctors, was on 6 different medications and had been diagnosed with IC . From the start Dr. Kaufman was compassionate and confident he could help me . At my first appointment he explained to me I had been misdiagnosed. Dr Kaufman got to the bottom of my frequent urination problem that I had suffered with for six months. I had been to six other urologists. He was able to diagnose it as pelvic floor dysfunction and I am now going to physical therapy and on the road to recovery. I am so thankful to him and would highly recommend him.

I had not seen Dr. Kaufman in a while but recently I had begun to feel discomfort and realized it was silly to delay a consultation. First off, it is clearly a busy office. There are many phone calls but I saw firsthand that Nancy actually goes through the answering messages IMMEDIATELY upon coming through the front door. Secondly, there are lots of patients...men both young and old......so I was grateful with rather short notice Nancy had the ability and kindness to --fit me in-- early the next day! In Todays medical world, one doesnt often get this sort of instant response. As for Dr. Kaufman....well, it is clear he is brilliant and a workaholic but my actual consult and exam with him was SUPERB. He listened, responded and had concise and intelligent answers to all my questions. He immediately pinned the situation down to two possibilities and prescribed medication that might address the probable cause without any harm in any case. I was totally satisfied with my visit and care. The office deserves PRAISE!!!!

I see Dr. Kaufman annually for a Urology related checkup after experiencing a severe UTI several years ago. In addition to being quite personable, he is very professional and provides common sense recommendations. I am extremely satisfied with the service provided by him and the staff of his office.

I live in the Middle East, and was suffering with pain and frequency after a miscarriage. I saw so many urologists and gynecologists in my country, but none of them could help me. Luckily, I came across Dr. Kaufmans clinic when I was doing a search on the internet. I was planning a vacation to New York that summer, so I figured Ill take an appointment and see him ... and I have been referring back to him ever since. On several occasions Dr. Kaufman was able to diagnose me and put me on the road to recovery. He is heaven sent! Every single time I had a problem, he was there to help me through it, whether I happened to be in NY and see him personally, or over the phone or email. I do not listen to any urologist here in my country, or take any medication, without referring back to him first. He is conscientious, personable, and professional. I am so happy to have found him.

Dr. Kaufman is an outstanding urologist and ultimately the medical professional who helped me the most after pain from a hernia repair procedure. I had previously seen him due to other pelvic floor issues and he, unlike anyone else, was able to connect the dots, make plans for treatment, and offer realistic hope that I would get better. His beside manner is excellent, he is efficient, and also listens carefully and gives you all the time that you need. Outstanding.

I would highly recommend Dr. Kaufman for any woman who is experiencing unresolved pelvic pain. I had been to many doctors before finding Dr. Kaufman, and wish I had found him sooner! He was professional, caring and really listened to my concerns. He diagnosed me quickly (which was amazing to me, given how long I had been searching for answers!) and soon had me on the road to recovery. I cannot say enough positive things about him. His staff is also professional and caring and were extremely helpful.

Dr. Kaufman is an incredibly knowledgeable urologist. Prior to seeing him, I met with half a dozen of gynecologists who were unable to properly diagnose and treat my Vulvodynia. He immediately put me on correct medication and recommended a treatment plan which provided relief quickly and effectively after 2 years of pain and despair. I visited a myriad of well-respected urologists in Manhattan stemming from chronic pain I had been experiencing. Dr. Kaufmans theory pertaining to prostatitis (all --types-- being bacterial) and consequent treatment solved my issue after months of misdiagnosis and under-treatment by others. Contrary to other posts on this website, Dr. Kaufman insisted that I discontinue medication after a certain point in the treatment, as he felt it would no longer be appropriate given the favorable results we had achieved. Dr. Kaufman also found that that my symptoms had resulted in some peripheral muscular inflammation. Subsequently, he referred me to a physical therapist that is also a first-class medical professional. He is extremely knowledgeable, professional and personable. His office is conveniently located near Columbus Circle in Manhattan. I strongly endorse Dr. Kaufman. The fact that I now live pain-free is a testament to his capabilities as a medical professional. A++++!

After suffering from cystitis for 3 years, I decided to visit Dr. David Kaufman in New York City as both myself and my own wonderful urologist here in Montreal were eager to get to the bottom of the urogenital pain that had shattered my life. As anyone who has experienced cystitis knows, your life often becomes a prison of pain and panic. In fact, as eager as I was to visit Dr. Kaufman, I was also terrified: terrified that he would perhaps tell me that this was my life and I would have to learn to live with it, terrified that my own worst nightmare would be proved correct. I never expected that Dr. Kaufman would be able not only to explain the source of my pelvic pain but also to propose a solution that he assured me would give me back my life. Truly, this was too much to hope for but this is in fact exactly what Dr. Kaufman did. Dr. Kaufman sent me to the pelvic floor therapists at Beyond Basics, where two extraordinary therapists explained how I myself could treat the pelvic pain that was destroying my life. After 2 visits: I was able to: 1. Stop the spasms and pain that occur with vigorous walking 2 Sit through an entire movie without having to urinate once for the first time in decades (I normally would urinate every 15-20 minutes) 3 Have a bowel movement (the chronic constipation associated with constant pelvic constriction meant going to the bathroom once a week). 4 Tolerate pelvic massage which before would have left me spasming uncontrollably I cannot recommend Dr. Kaufman enough to anyone who suffers from cystitis or from other sources of pelvic-pain. His expertise is unmatched and I am glad that I took a leap of faith and put myself in his capable hands. I am grateful to him for his wisdom, his compassion and for the extraordinary team of therapists who give women like me what they are so desperately searching for: to return to their normal lives. Dr. Kaufman is one of the best doctors who I have ever met, and I highly recommend him. He not only possesses exceptional expertise and judgment; he also respects the importance of the individual patient’s symptoms and history. Prior to meeting Dr. Kaufman, I endured many years of misdiagnoses and painful, unsuccessful treatments for my symptoms. While the other doctors were applying a conventional diagnosis and recommending traditional treatments, Dr. Kaufman understood that my symptoms were chronic and recurrent, and therefore warranted a different diagnosis and approach. Dr. Kaufman is awesome. I had a --bladder incident-- misdiagnosed by a doctor out of NYC. That doctor felt I would have to live with frequency in urination and pain for --the rest of your life--. Dr. Kaufman told me it was a bladder infection that was misdiagnosed and mistreated. After a course of antibiotics I am feeling human again. Thank goodness I found him or I would be walking around with a bladder infection for years to come. Highly recommended.

Overall, my experience at Dr. Kaufmans office was an A+. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The receptionist remembered everyones name which was a nice personal touch. I also liked the check in tablets. Dr. Kaufman was very professional throughout the visit. He also had a sense of humor around a pretty awkward topic. Dr. Kaufman is an extraordinary physician, one who is without parallel in my experience. In 2011, I experienced urethral/bladder pain, and over a period of six months I sought relief from five urologists, two of whom were gynecologic urologists. Of the five doctors, two treated the condition as a UTI, prescribing antibiotics before waiting for the culture results (the medications thereby proving to be ineffective in treating the condition). Three diagnosed interstitial cystitis (IC) and placed me on the IC diet. The pain continued. I returned to the second gynecologic urologist to seek any help she could provide with the discomfort; annoyed that I had come back, she stated that the only other treatment available to me was a bladder wash to be implemented bi-weekly (her description of the procedure sounded medieval, to say the least). At that moment, I gave up hope of ever returning to normal life (I had taken a medical leave from my teaching); worse yet, I felt I had no one to turn to since no physician could diagnose the problem. Then, my daughter researched IC specialists and found Dr. Kaufman. Expecting the same IC diagnosis, I went to see him for pain management exclusively. To my surprise, he did not dismiss me or rush me through the office visit as the other doctors had. Instead, he immediately allayed my anxiety by assuring me that the symptoms I described were not consistent with IC. It turned out that I had vulvodynia (two gynecologic urologists could not identify that??). With the correct medication, I started feeling better after one week; after two, the pain was gone. Through it all, Dr. Kaufman made himself available to me through email, never failing to respond to my notes within 24 hours. What physician does that? Clearly, Dr. Kaufmanâ??s practice is patient-centered, his patients his first priority. I have since seen him for kidney stones and UTIs and thank my lucky stars that I am under his care (I pray for his health and welfare â?? and that he doesnâ??t retire early). For those who have commented on waiting a bit to see him, please allow me to assure you that it was for a good reason; know that he was with a patient, either in the office or at the hospital. (notwithstanding, he is well worth the wait!). Dr. Kaufman is an outstanding urologist, one I recommend highly and most enthusiastically for those who seek relief from urological issues.

I found Dr. Kaufman through these physician review sites, and I am glad to give back and recommend others to Dr. Kaufman. Dr. Kaufman performed a vasectomy on me. He provided a clear explanation of the consequences of the procedure and a detailed list of instructions for how to prepare for the procedure and recovery. The procedure itself was quick and professional. It was clear he had performed this procedure many times, and had plenty of great jokes lined up that had me and my partner laughing. I contacted Dr. Kaufman a few times after the procedure via email, and he responded within hours in a tone that matched his warm demeanor in his office. Simply put, Dr. Kaufman is one of the most professional and personable doctors I have ever met. Dr. Kaufman is far above and beyond almost every doctor I have seen in my life, and I full heartedly recommend him.

David Kaufman, MD has been my urologist for ten years. He was referred to me by my internist, who had read an article in a medical journal in which Dr. Kaufman described the etiology and treatment modalities for interstitial cystitis, a bladder disorder with which no urologist or gynecologist was familiar at the time. Because I had a history of pyelonephritis and bladder infections, no one looked further to diagnose or treat the pelvic pain, which had become unbearable. Since my first visit, during which Dr. Kaufman diagnosed the interstitial cystitis and explained how it could be treated, he has addressed my urological problems with care and respect. On several occasions, has referred me to other specialists with whom I have developed long-standing patient-doctor relationships. I often say I can never leave New York - not because I love the theatre , the museums and the opera -but because I rely on my medical doctors and -especially -Dr. Kaufman. He is a caring and calming physician, an intelligent and knowledgeable practitioner and a lovely man. I recommend him without reservation.

I was diagnosed with I.C. in 2009 and was told that I.C. wasnâ??t curable and that Iâ??d be on Elmiron for the rest of my life. My first urologist prescribed Elmiron and suggested alterations to my diet. I was doing fine with the present treatment but occasionally I would have flares that were difficult to shake. In 2014 I moved to New York and sought out Dr. Kaufman because of his reputation for being an I.C. expert. He listened to my symptoms and thought that I may actually have been misdiagnosed. Dr. Kaufman diagnosed pelvic floor dysfunction and vulvodynia, adjusted my medications to reflect the new diagnosis and referred me to a physiotherapist. The pelvic floor physio turned out to be a big piece of the healing puzzle for me. With Dr. Kaufmanâ??s insight I am on my way to feeling healthy, happy, and Elmiron-free.

We went to Dr. Kaufman for a second opinion after having been to another urologist. We got in to see him quickly; he was very proactive and problem-solving with us (we didnt have to repeat the same tests for an umpteenth time, which wed had to do with two previous doctors, which was such a relief). He was also kind and concerned and provided results as soon as he had them (also a tremendous relief after the way we were treated at previous doctors offices), and followed up to see how I responded to a pretty unpleasant biopsy. His instructions were very clear, and he was quite patient with our questions, and informative and forthcoming with answers. One negative comment: the receptionist was super helpful in getting us our first appointment, but was very aggressive about payment, did not explain things well, and was a bit abrasive when we were feeling quite vulnerable after receiving some not great news.

His is nice and friendly but he diagnosed me before even looking at me. He was basically trying to shove medication down my throat and wont go over any other types of options to the meds. I agree with what the other person wrote, he must have his pockets lined from the drug companies. This is just my experience- he may be good for some, but for me I did not like him.

I went to him twice and then found a different doctor. He doesnt look you in the eye when hes talking to you, and if you dont fit what he thinks is wrong, he just blows you off with some nonsense. He may be better with men who have problems that are textbook, but as a woman I wouldnt recommend him. There are better doctors out there and I found one who solved the problem.

The doctor appears to be very knowledgeable and diagnosed me correctly on the first office visit. However, his staff are incompetent and never pick up the phone or return phone calls. It is a nightmare to get in touch with this office especially when it is time sensitive. The doctor does respond fairly quickly by e-mail. Overall, good doctor but the staff is horrific.

In our opinion, this doctor has absolutely no bedside manner, he was abrasive, insulting and then flippant with his diagnosis, definitely a knee jerk reaction prescribing medication when other options were not even discussed. He seems very self assured and gave off a belittling air when questioned, as if we were laughable. He also made various rude and inappropriate comments. I quote from his website claim --He offers compassionate, personalized care in a safe and confidential environment.-- Our experience of him was completely void of compassion and it actually felt like he was condescending, insulting and for more sensitive people it could be traumatic. We were a bit stunned at the treatment we received in the consult and will be looking for a more humane urologist.

Dr Kaufman prescribed me months of treatment for my chronic urinary track infections which only gave me tendonitits from levaquin and candida/yeast infections. He insisited I keep taking them even after my legs were bruised and swollen. He also has a poor bed side manner.

This doctor did not return my call about the results of my Cat Scan for two days. I had to insist to get him on the phone to let me know what does results were. He would not explain the results to me; instead told me to go see my primary care doctor to explain them to me. During the first visit, he took ten minutes to ask me a few questions, then sent me to do a Cat Scan without even examining me. He was very dismissive of my concerns and questions. I am 49 year-old and have seen my share of doctor; this one is by far the worst. If you want to be treated respectfully, dont go there.

Terrible experience. First, the staff forgot to notify that my appointment had been cancelled, causing me to travel 40 mins to the office to find out it was closed. Then when the appointment was rescheduled, the doctor kept me waiting for 40 minutes before seeing me. When he finally saw me, he was completely rude and brusque with me. I spent literally five minutes with him before the appointment ended. Would never consider going to him again.

If you go to this doctor, he may destroy your life, as he destroyed mine. Though his specialty is interstitial cystitis, he performs vasectomy on the side for extra money, though he has no knowledge about vasectomy. He ripped inguinal hernias into both sides of my abdomen, tied heavy nonabsorbable threads down the full length of my vas deferens and epididymis leading to the loss of my right testis, and he has left me in severe chronic pain for over a year (with no end in sight) in my left testis. I highly recommend looking for a qualified urologist and staying far away from David.

Horrible doctor--hes rude, which is bad enough, but he is also totally uneducated about female urology (which he claims to be an expert in--especially with chronic pain). Hes also just not that smart in general: did not know, for example, the difference between Type I and Type II diabetes--unbelievable.

Do not understand all the wonderful ratings. This man was once wonderful but his expertise and fame have gone to his head. Impossible for old patients to get appointments at his new establishment. He appears to have been purchased by a physical therapy place downtown. His staff is incompetent and does not respond to telephone calls. If you try to use his website to get appointments the wait is over two months if you can believe it...

This doctor is beyond bad. My husband is a surgeon (in another field) and I know of what I speak. Patient-blaming (for genetic disease), physically aggressive, borderline inappropriate (walked back into room before I was dressed and kept talking). I could put up with the horrible bedside manner if he had a good reputation. He does not.
