Waited three weeks to find out my surgery & appointment dates. Had a successful partial nephrectomy, but had seen him once post operatively (waited over an hour for him due to staff meeting). My six month follow appointment was cancelled at 8:00am on the appointment day (secretary called from her house since she forgot to call the prior to tell me since my results were fine no need for appointment). Should follow up in another six months & will have some tests scheduled. Still no follow up appointments or tests scheduled & no call backs from his secretary in the past two months in regards to these inquiries. No patient should be treated like this!

Doctor Dahl operated on me in 8/14. I had a very rare tumor called feochromocytoma. He is a brilliant surgeon who quite simply saved my life.

My dad died from prostate cancer. My brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age of 41. I was diagnosed in 06 at age 56 with the same issue. Dr. Doug Dahl saw me through the whole process of diagnoses to surgery and complete follow ups. My brother had his prostatectomy done in western Mass. Mine was done at MGH. We are both living survivors. Dr Douglas Dahl is great in his field.

Dr Dahl removed my prostate 5 years ago that is a fact. I had cancer and that is also a fact. I no longer have that cancer and that is also a fact. The most important FACT is that Dr Dahl is a brilliant surgeon he is caring and understanding and he is a life saver. No one wants to have this surgery at the time I was scared. Dr Dahl looked me in the eye and with the utmost sincerity he told me I was going to be alright, five years later I am more than alright, I’m happy and living a full active life in all aspects and most of all I’m grateful to this amazing doctor. My wife and my family look at me and see a happy grateful man who is eternally thankful that this doctor who saved my life.
Thank you Dr Dahl.

Thank you.

From the 3 doctor session right through the operation and the follow-up he was THE RIGHT MAN to remove my prostate. From the start he gave me hope that urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction were not necessarily a --given-- with surgery. I needed that when trying to make the surgery vs radiation decision.

My husband at the age of 53 had a nerve sparing radical prostatectomy by Dr. Dahl 9 years ago due to cancer. He saved his life and with no side effects from the surgery. I did my research when searching for the best surgeon. Dr Dahls name came up many times as the best. The first surgeon we saw for a consult said he could not do a nerve sparing radical prostatectomy. The cancer was all over the prostatectomy. Dr Dahl went in with an open mind and felt confident he got all the cancer and still was able to save the nerves. I would give Dr Dahl 100 stars if I could.

Excellency across the board! Brilliant surgeon yet kind and down to earth. His assistant, AJ, was wonderful as well! Totally recommend.

Dahl performed a laparoscopic radical prostatectomy on me 11/2002 for early-stage cancer at age 64. In the aftermath, negligible urinary incontinence, but erectile function never recovered--for which I blame the odds, not Dahl. Recovery from the procedure was very rapid and uncomplicated, and his follow-up care has been excellent in every way, including help with workarounds for the impotence. (My advice: pray for nerve regeneration and a partner with a sense of humor.)

Dr. Dahl worked on me after I returned from having a Radical Prostatectomy done at John Hopkins. I recommend him strongly. He operated on me later for my inability to pee due to scar tissue. He did very well as I am totally continent.

Dr. Dahl is a brilliant doctor that is vey knowledgeable in urology. I was very fortunate to speak with him and have him diagnose my kidney for possible tumors. He explained to me if they were tumors his surgical procedure would easily abate the situation without removal of a kidney. I have never met such a doctor with confidence about abating cancerous tumors without the necessary chemo or radiation additions. A leader in the field of urology.

Dr Dahl has been doing laparoscopic radical prostatectomies for about the past 5 years - total of about 500 I think, and I chose him to remove my PCa which was diagnosed in May 2005 when I was 54. The surgical team were very good and the procedure went well. I was quite comfortable off pain meds within 2 days and back at work about 3 weeks after surgery. More importantly, I have been lucky enough to retain excellent erectile function and urinary continence - both of those are at substantial risk from the procedure. Either I got lucky or hes a very skilled surgeon - I suspect a bit of both. I have no hesitation recommending him for anyone unfortunate enough to be looking for a skilled prostate surgeon in Boston MA. He operates at MGH and his team does 3 LRPs each week. Hes young, very skilled, and I found him to be an excellent choice for my situation. (I happen to be a physician which probably made his job harder!!)

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and Dr. Dahl was recommended as a surgeon. He was very thorough and laid out all the options. He listened to my concerns and assured me he understood my issues. Being diagnosed at 42 was very unnerving but having Dr. Dahl as my surgeon helped ease my worries. The surgery was successful and I am indebted to Dr. Dahl. No issues from surgery and fully healed.

Dr Dahl is not only an artist, but a great guy. I could not have received better care or a better result. I was surprised by how painless the procedure was.

Professional, pleasant, patient, simply all you could ask for in a physician specializing in urology and related cancers. A great asset to health care in general and MGH, specifically. Lucky to be his patient!!!

I have been meaning to write a review for some time now, as I had surgery with Dr. Dahl over 2 years ago. I had a condition called UPJ that effected the connection between my bladder and kidney. It was an emergency state. I had to have a stent put in and a week later my kidney completely removed. Dr. Dahl and his office couldnt be more helpful and courteous. I trusted him and he really explained everything to me. He answered any questions. I never had a long wait time. He and his staff constantly followed up and checked on me. If there was a problem, he was able to see me at his office right away. My scars are minimal. I am so thankful. I would recommend Dr. Dahl to family, friends, or anyone for that matter, as I wish more doctors were like him. Very professional.

I am only 3 weeks post surgery, I did all the research on post prostate surgical difficulties, I knew what to expect and was prepared to recover and I knew that recovery would depend on being patient and following doctors orders. I expected urinary incontenence , it didnt happen, I expected ED and Ive not had these issues. I can only attribute my good fortune to the brilliance of Dr Dahl. He and his surgical team and all the staff at MGH quite literally took care of me and helped me to understand every aspect of what I could expect being a cancer patient. Dr Dahls demeanor and his calming influence on me made everything from start to finish during the surgical process much more easy for my wife and myself. Im a very lucky and so greatful that Dr Dahl has taken me through this process.

After extensive review, I selected Dr. Dahl to perform my Prostate surgery a few years ago. He proved to be an excellant and caring surgeon, thoroughly explaining all parts of the procedure, and doing an excellant job

He diagnosed me, gave me choices, educated me to make the best choice and performed the surgery. He and his team took outstanding care of me an I couldnt be happier with the care I was provided.

My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 61 with a PSA of 18 after having a PSA less than a year prior <1. Everything happened so fast and we went from biopsy to scans to surgery in less than 3 weeks. The intake nurse at the Yawkey cancer center was wonderful and made us feel at ease from the beginning. Lisa, Dr. Dahls office scheduler couldnt be more empathetic and efficient. We are still waiting results but couldnt be happier with all the medical team in the practice.

Compassionate, professional , empathetic and balanced perspective. Having been diagnosed with early stage Prostate cancer, I was fully expecting to require surgery and was referred to Dr. Dahl who specializes in laporascopic surgical techniques. In short, upon review of my case he felt I was a prime candidate for watchful surveillance and should hold off on surgery if I can deal with knowing I have cancer. Two years later we continue to monitor every six months, have had an additional biopsy, but things remain stable- I truly appreciate his professional approach of not performing surgery if its not needed, but fully confident that if some day I do, Im with one of the best in the business.

Dr. Dahl Seems like a good person, however going through surgery you need a team. Dr. Dahl is not t a team player, because he does not have a team just himself no follow-up. Now onto Chemo and Radiation I was caught early and it should have been a slam dunk. Look somewhere else, just my humble opinion.

Had prostate removed by DR Dahl in 2012 . Poor suturing led to internal bleed which cause all kinds of internal problems and required several additional procedures , all painful, I suspect that Dahl did not close the site himself but left it to someone else. I now have a recurrence of prostate cancer, even after i was assured that they got it all. I can not recommend DR Dahl or MGH. Im sure my story will not effect DR. Dahls practice , i do hope it effects you choice.
