I have seen Dr Carpio 3 times. The first time in the office was ok. He seemed distracted but competent.
I then had an outpatient procedure. When I came out of the anesthesia, I was in a lot of pain and asked for pyridium. He told the nurse to give me one 95 mg tablet (OTC for the product is 2-4 95 mg tablets) which did very little to ease the pain.
When I saw him as a follow up to the procedure he offered me a prescription of Elmiron for my interstitial cystitis. We discussed side effects which made me a bit leery of the drug but when I found out it was going to cost almost $600 per month on my current drug plan and almost $200 per month after a deductible on the plan that starts in a few days, I decided to live with the discomfort instead.
I would expect a physician to have some concept of the cost of a drug and mention that when he is discussing it. Obviously the cost can vary a lot depending on the drug plan you have however a patient should be warned that it could be expensive. Overall, I don't find him focused on the patient as a whole.

I was hospitalized last week for high fevers caused by some unexpected kidney stones at West Kendall Baptist Hospital. Dr. Carpio was the urologist I was assigned to. He spent little time explaining anything to me and 4 days later I had my kidney stone extracted. I had a stent put in place, was prescribed pain medication and antibiotics, and have since been trying to schedule a follow up appointment with his staff for the past 4 days. No call back, no follow up, absolutely no response. The worst customer service I have seen in years. In the mean time, I continue with pain and have now developed a yeast infection.Extremely disappointed in Dr. Carpio and his entire staff. They are rude and do not speak any English. I wish I would have seen these reviews sooner.
