Please do yourself a favor and go to a different urologist. I was referred by my doctor to go to him and wish I would have done more research. He cant stand up and has to sit throughout any/all appointments/procedure. Was very rude and told me to go see a different doctor and wouldnt let my spouse in the procedure room although Ive spoken to many other patients who have done this procedure done with other doctors and were all in attendance during the actual procedure. Even the pharmacist when dropping off prescriptions said he needs to retire and I should have looked else where. She also could barely read the prescription and said this is common with this doctor. That should have told me something that pharmacist even tried to warn us! I also never have my phone calls returned by his staff. Hard to get questions answered and most of the time they didnt have the answers and constantly put me off on someone else. Hes very old and feels as though his age excuses his rude behavior. Ive been to many many doctors and have never experienced horrible bedside manner/doctor patient relationship quite like this. Please do your research!

To start with (and most importantly), he misdiagnosed my father and failed to follow standard procedure by performing a biopsy before surgery. Had he done so, my father wouldnt be having to undergo another surgery. Furthermore, his bedside manner is horrible. After reading that I am not the only bad review, I dont understand how his --star-- rating is so high. I gave him one star because he finished medical school, and its a required field to submit this review.

I was also confused about this urologist ratings - it seemed ok, even good. After investigating I see he has a son that has a much better reputation with the same name that is an Ochsner doctor. Dr Alfred Colfry the urologist at EGJH, we had a shockingly bad experience with him. I do not know if he is just so old now, he is unbelievably bizarre, so inappropriate and does not follow basic protocols. We ran from this doctor!! The only smart thing he ever said was “ why don’t you get a second opinion” and “ why don’t you get a different doctor” ... that was great advise!!!He is incredibly rude, like nothing I have ever seen!!! He is also either incapable or refuses to explain anything about a huge surgery he wished to perform. I think any and all good ratings are intended for his son, with the same name. Dr Alfred Colfry the EJ urologist should not be confused with his son. Colfry the urologist needs a caution sign on the entrance door to his office. He may be ok for just an order for a routine test and filling a prescription, if you can stand his arrogance but absolutely not appropriate for surgery!! I take no enjoyment in disrespecting the elderly but he is either a shell of himself or most likely he has always been really awful. Dr Colfry does not want any questions, he originally said he had no problem with answering questions but that is absolutely not true. The first question we asked he said “ no you pick what surgery you want, I’m not going to do both” We wanted his advice as an expert and to discuss the options as to what was best, we did not have the knowledge to know our options and only asked very basic questions...... After he very quickly scheduled a huge surgery after one visit and had not ever examined the patient. Everything about our two visits with Dr Colfry raised red flags and he honestly creeped us out. We where not in an emergency situation only an urgent issue that needed addressing but we are so thankful not to have been scheduled with this man in an emergency, straight from the ER then to surgery. Lots of doctors can work until they are very old with doing just routine maintenance care and writing prescriptions.....but going to the OR with that man would be terrifying!!!!!i After doing some homework we where advised by many doctors of his bizarre behavior and they all said that they have heard many many complaints, all similar in nature. After speaking to many of his peers my advise is to be very careful and do not go to surgery with him!!!! I say none of this out of disrespect or malicious intent. The rating/reviews he has are very misleading- he does not have a good reputation. The good ratings and reviews are for his son. Patients desperately need to be able to see truthful ratings, and reviews. If he was just giving out routine prescription in his office, I would save my review because he is so old. If you are forever changing lives in the operating room then be prepared for a big boy honest review from me!! I found this doctors arrogance to be creepy, he behaved in a way suggestive that he was so great that he didn’t need to be asked any questions ... like just wait and see what you get, don’t worry about where your incision will be or what all I’m doing or what other doctors I’m going to beg to be present in the OR with me because I can’t handle your surgery... just show up. You can do that with someone dying but stable patients with some time and options may want to actually know what you intend on cutting and removing and so on. My overall take from him is that when he was in his game, he was awful. Now he’s old and all his issues are easily exposed. He is creepy and I don’t like him touching my family member. On top of everything else he made very rude derogatory statements and facial expressions of disgust at the appearance of a not attractive older belly. This is on a very small framed person but when clothes removed the belly isn’t pretty - we where not there for a bikini contest. He was having a surgery consult. “ what is this ?..fat” “ this just got complicated “ .. “ this is so fat and hanging”. It was just so unbelievable we both wanted to laugh. He rolled his eyes at the disappointment of his body. There is not one aspect of this Doctor that I can say is ok. If we thought he was competent at all we would allow the rude behavior. This guy couldn’t remember any of his pertinent information. I just can’t say enough bad things. I could go on and on. He is so awful in every way. Run away as fast as you can. We didn’t say a word we just literally snuck out. Then we got called a few hours later to schedule pre op test the following day. If your patient sneaks out the room then they probably are not going to let you operate. Games over - move on to the next victim. We escaped.

Upon coming to this site and seeing his good reviews I made an appointment. I later found out (before I went) that the Doctor diagnosed a family friend wrong. I decided to go anyways, because everyone makes mistakes and my appointment was already booked. I went. Waited an hour to be seen and the doctor didnt even check my prostate. That should of been a huge first step for my problems. I paid my co-pay, and he scheduled me for some blood work. I went back with not having the problem anymore and he said my blood work was fine. He sent me home after I waited there an hour with no help at all. The problem returned so Ill be seeing a new doctor.
