I did not have a very good experience with Dr. Bourne and his staff. I was referred to him by other doctors because I had been experiencing pelvic pain. I was very hopeful that Dr. Bourne and his staff would be able to help fix my problem. His PA was HORRIBLE!!!! She was very rude and I felt like she had no idea what she was doing!! She did pelvic exam on me and made me panic for NOTHING!! She is inexperienced in my opinion! No other tests were done to try to figure out my pain. I was trying to tell her my symptoms and she would not listen or let me finish. She said she was sure my pain was because I had twins (TWO YEARS AGO!!) I only got to see Dr. Bourne because I was in tears that nothing was being done. When he came in the room he looked as though he was trying to hold back a smile as I was there sobbing!! He also did not do any exams, tests, or blood work. He just agreed that my pain was due to carrying twins in the past. I left in tears and I WONT be back!

Dr. Bourne treated an extended family member who subsequently had a reaction to a medication he prescribed following a procedure. When contacted about the nausea and vomiting she was experiencing, we were told that if we --did not trust his judgment--, we should stop the medication and no other options were suggested. Her condition worsened and the following day she was admitted to the hospital. She began experiencing severe headaches and pain in her extremities. Bleeding in the brain was discovered and she was transferred to a Sioux City hospital. She also experienced spikes in her blood pressure that required IV treatment in the ICU. She was treated by a neurosurgeon who requested (more than once) that Dr. Bourne see her while she was at the hospital. He refused to see her at the hospital, stating that she had an appointment scheduled at the Ida Grove hospital the coming week and he would see her then. She was on the same floor as the urology wing and he couldnt take the time to see her or consult with the neurosurgeon. After a week there, she was transferred back to the Ida Grove hospital. She kept her appointment with him and he was apprised of what had transpired. When asked about other treatment options for her initial UTI problem if she could not tolerate the drug he prescribed, he said there were few other options due to allergies, etc. One option would be to not give her any form of antibiotic and let her body fight the infection. He stated that was what they did years ago before penicillin was discovered and --the patients body fought the infection off or they died.-- What kind of doctor makes these kinds of statements to an 82-year old patient and completely ignores the request of another doctor to see a patient? Needless to say, this is the last time this woman will see this doctor. As I write this, she is in her 4th week of hospitalization and she also experienced a major loss of vision. Upon researching the side effects associated with the drug he initially prescribed, every episode she experienced is listed as a possible side effect. A warning about using this drug with elderly patients was also noted in the literature. I would not recommend Dr. Bourne due to his --how dare you question me-- attitude, poor patient/family interaction, and unwillingness to work with other medical professionals in the treatment of a patient.
