Went to see Dr. Colhoun for extreme sharp pains in testicles during intimacy and lingering abdominal pain from groin / abdomen up to side kidney area which had been ongoing for 3 months. Dr. Colhoun performed a quick check of the testicles and advised no signs of cancer. He indicated he was uncertain to the cause and advised to take anti-inflammatory prior to intimacy. When I pushed back indicating he must have misunderstood and to explain the pain level was extreme (10/10) and the groin/abdomen discomfort pain was (5/10), he indicated it may have been possible this was linked to a vasectomy from 10 years prior. He provided an anti-inflammatory and after I continued to express concern conceded to provide antibiotic. No additional examination was performed nor did he appear the interested in finding the cause. When pushed for further investigation, his answer was that if it continued a procedure could be performed to kill the nerves thereby I would not feel the pain. (Does not correct the underlying problem but rather prevents my bodies ability to feel the pain and know there is a PROBLEM). His answer was to check back in one month. I left zero confidence in Dr. Calhoun. I would not recommend Dr. Calhoun to anyone in need of a urologist. Two days after my visit to Dr. Calhoun, I had a scheduled visit with my Family Doctors Office for a yearly Physical. I explained my experience to the Physicians Assistant performing the Physical and he advised to continue the antibiotics provided by Dr. Colhoun and if I did not see noticeable improvement within a week and a half (not one month), to reach back out to him and he would investigate further. As suspected, there was little to no improvement, which led to a follow-up visit where the Family Doctors Office. The same PA treated me. He reviewed blood test results, took addition urine specimens, performed a prostate exam, and ordered imaging test. He found the Prostate to be of normal size yet appeared abnormal in its consistency. His diagnosis was that it appeared to be a Prostate infection and further advised Prostate Infections were resistant to antibiotics thereby requiring lengthier treatment periods of 6 weeks of antibiotics. He prescribed antibiotics and within 2 weeks I began to notice a substantial improvement. Currently over 4 weeks on antibiotics and 90% of the pain and discomfort is gone. I cannot speak highly enough with regard to the Physicians Assistant whom spent the time and effort to fully investigate and diagnose / treat the problem. After diagnosed, I looked up the symptoms of a prostate infection and they were exactly that which I was experiencing. The fact Dr. Colhoun as a Urologist specializing in this did not diagnose this nor did he even attempt to check the prostate is alarming. Under Dr. Colhouns treatment, by his own admission his next step would be to kill nerves which would have only mask a prostate infection potentially leading to much much worse outcomes.
