OK, so this is a bit of a unusual review , because Im NOT actually giving Pacific Urology (where Dr. Brian Hopkins used to work) 5 stars. I want to give 5 stars to DR. BRIAN HOPKINS as an individual Dr. I also want to say that he is NO LONGER affiliated with Pacific Urology, but will soon be practicing somewhere. As SOON as he is set up, he will let us ALL know. He still has hospital privledges & is on staff at BOTH hospitals, has not had any ethic or malpractice issues in his career and this new venture for him has NOTHING to do with his work ethics or practices at all. He is an amazing Dr. who has been caring for my father for 2 years now. My father is an 86 year old with Alzheimers & is on blood thinners. Dr. Hopkins got him in right away to put in a supra-pubic catheter, which we have had since 9/2013. Hes performed other small surgeries for my father, but he is ALWAYS available for me & has taken care of any bleeding issues & monitored my fathers care during the duration of his treatment. There is a fine line between making decisions for an Alzheimer elderly patient with a DNR & knowing when to treat something that is treatable. Dr. Hopkins has a wonderful demeanor & has explained everything from whats going on presently, his suggestions as to a treatment plan going forward & what I can/should expect. I have spoken with him & told him I will follow him anywhere (within reason, but you get the point). If you need a good urologist in the future, keep him in mind. Hes currently setting up a website & well try to keep you updated & apprised on his FB page so you can find him when you need to & he gets situated. The road in caring for my father has not been an easy one, but Dr. Hopkins has handled it with kindness, caring & exceptional professionalism. I am very grateful to him for all hes done for my Father.

I came to see Dr. Hopkins for a second opinion. I recently was diagnosed with prostate cancer and needed to find a doctor I trusted - someone who knows what they were talking about. I found my guy!

Excellent physician. Had some issues with waking up at night. Went to different urologists and liked Brian from the get go. He was polite and knowledgeable. A PA was doing some ultrasound analysis and was kind of in experienced when Brian came in and took over like a pro. Very professional with years of experience. Ok, so I finally did a medical procedure that I researched thoroughly and Brian did an awesome job! I do not wake up in the middle of the night. I repeat I no longer wake up in the middle of the night! I am finally sleeping. My god what a difference. Its an amazing procedure and Brian did everything quick and perfect. I was operated on for maybe 15-20 minutes and now I am a new man. Wow, what can I say? He is fantastic!

Dr. Hopkins has provided me with excellent/exceptional care. I was referred by another physician to Dr. Hopkins with a significant issue. Dr. Hopkins took the time and has provided me the correct diagnosis, the proper treatment, the proper follow-up and we are close to resolving the significant issue. Dr. Hopkins has been right on target with every step he has taken. He is vastly knowledgeable, listens to the issue and assures he understands the concerns and then moves forward with the best interest of the patient in mind. Dr. Hopkins is a superior physician who really knows and understands his patients and his profession. I would highly recommend him to anyone and am grateful that he took me on as a patient in a time of need.

I am very pleased with the professional service I have received during my recent visit at Dr. Hopkins's office. He is a really friendly person with many years of experience. In my opinion he is the best of the best and I strongly recommend him.

Knowledgable about current treatment procedures. Skilled in robotic surgery technique (DaVinci Machine). Personable with good bedside manner. Thorough in explanations. Good listener and answered all questions pertaining to treatment options. Never felt rushed- possible reason for wait but worth it.

A fantastic Doctor. I was developing a bladder issue that was backing urine that was seriously infected. He called the ER letting them know I was coming in, an should be admitted. Once I became stable he did the appropriate steps of performing surgery to clear the issue. Now my PSA is .24, that of 20 year old, not a 63 year. Both my wife and I are extremely happy.

WOW! That is how I feel now after suffering for years with an embarrassing problem that I thought I just had to live with. Dr. Hopkins has a wonderful bedside manner and made me completely at ease with asking all of my CRAZY questions, he was able to answer them truthfully and honestly. I feel a million times better now...GREAT doctor & staff.

I was overall very pleased with the care, and explanation of my diagnosis, and follow up surgery. I was treated with respect and felt I was in excellent and competent hands. I had the procedure and am happy to say I feel 100% satisfied. I would recommend Dr Hopkins to any one whois looking for an excellent Urologist.

I went to the Mens Health talk at John Muir Hospital tonight with my husband. We learned a lot from Dr. Hopkins - he really knows a lot about prostate cancer treatments. Now I feel comfortable having my husband see him - instead of dreading our appointment with him, we are looking forward to it.

I am a retired family physician who made countless referrals to urologists during my 30 year career. Over the years I personally needed the services of urologists. Before moving to the East Bay area, I had seen 7 urologists, some of the best in Virginia's Roanoke Valley. My Walnut Creek cardiologist recommended I establish with Dr. Hopkins, saying that he was the best around for managing difficult cases. Now 2 years into this relationship, I am happy to report that he is by far the best urologist I have ever seen. I have every confidence in his expertise. He is calm and deliberate and takes time to discuss every aspect of his diagnostic considerations and treatment options. I highly recommend him.

back in 2007 I had to have a kidney removed because of ureter cancer, that went to my bladder. Dr. Hopkins was great, have been going to see for cancer checks and all is good. He has an excellent personnality and is easy to talk too. He uses all the new techniques. If you need a great urologist this is your Man!!! I will stay with him as long as I need to. GRADE DOUBLE A+

Personable and informative. Clearly understands and is able to explain the issues involved with my care. Makes me feel that I am getting the best care possible and comfortable with that care.

I would recommend Dr. Hopkins to all my friends, family, and even strangers. Eventhough my surgery was extensive, the procedure was so thorough and wonderful suggestions afterwards by Dr. Hopkins very concise, my recovery has been quick and easy. I have so much confidence in Dr. Hopkins that I would do this again if I had to.

Dr. Hopkins is an outstanding physician. He is very knowledeable, and he takes the time to listen to you. I have 100% confidence in him and his abilities. The office staff, especially his nurse, could use some training in customer service. I highly recommend Dr. Hopkins.

EVERYONE AT PACIFIC UROLOGY ARE VERY KIND AND HELPFUL. DR. HOPKINS IS A WONDERFUL DOCTOR AND ANSWERS ALL QUESTIONS IN FULL. I WOULD RECOMMEND DR. HOPKINS FOR THE SURGERY I HAD.
February 10 , 2010
I felt that he was thorough(extensive testing/diagnosing/consultation) and spent a good deal of time with me discussing my condition and possibilities for treatment. However, once I decided to proceed with surgery, I had a few simple questions that would require about 5 mins of his time. It is all but impossible to reach him directly by phone and after leaving 3 or 4 messages at both offices, I still never received a call back. His practice is busy, which I suppose is a good sign, but dont count on getting an appointment anytime soon if you have a pressing issue (the same goes for surgery). I found this website (Vitals.com) in pursuit of Dr. Hopkins e-mail address, hoping I could perhaps get a response through that avenue.

Dr Hopkins was my urologist He just disappeared from Pacific Urology. What gives.

I dont question his skill as a doctor but his willingness to communicate with me could be improved, in my opinion. I dont appreciate being kept in the dark about my treatments. Long wait times are another problem.
June 27 , 2014
Dont visit this practice, specifically Dr. Hopkins if you value your time. After 6 years, the shortest wait time I had was 40 minutes, the longest almost 2 hours, and that with the first appointment after lunch. The last appointment I had, I called to confirm and ask if they were on time or running behind. After being told, --were right on time,-- I waited an hour and left without being seen. While Dr. Hopkins is a fine physician and seemingly competent, the lack of courtesy and regard for your time as a patient is extremely lacking.

"My initial visit with a Nurse Practitioner was a pleasant experience. She was sympathetic, caring and very thorough.
My first visit with Dr Hancock was, for me, one of the worst I've experienced! His manner was abrupt & disrespectful and definitely felt hurried. He asked me questions such as: Why did you gain weight? Why did you stop exercising? Why did you wait so long to see a Dr.? Although ..."

Upon registration one hour wait. No explanation, only later the Dr. mentioned emergency surgery - would be nice to let the customer know. Procedure was, I think unacceptably uncomfortable and appeared rushed. This was Wednesday. The Dr. did point out his observations during the procedure, this was a plus, possibly the only positive comment I can make. During the consultation the Dr. seemed detached, other things on his mind. After the consultation the Dr simply pointed me to the receptionist “She will have everything you need”. I was simply told we’ll call to schedule the next appointment. No post procedure guidelines or information on what to expect was given. A couple days later as problems developed I called, Saturday only expecting to get an answering service, but the message did say “we check hourly” but it didn’t mention this was only weekdays, and apparently no checking at all on weekends. Sunday morning I was admitted to the ER with an infection, turns out blood infection from the procedure. Monday afternoon while in the hospital I received a return call telling me “you made the right decision (going to the hospital)”. Just conveying my experience for others to consider. Later in the week, I received another call, to see when to schedule a follow up. No thanks. This is just my experience with this doctor, take it as such. Personally, I will not see this doctor again.

I waited for an hour without being called in, and with no explanation, update on timing, or appearance of any level of care from the staff. I went to the desk and told them I was leaving, and they said wait, let me call someone. I said it was too late and I left, never to return. If a Dr. has a policy to charge a patient for being late, then they should act more responsibly or pay us for our time. They are NOT gods. They require I fill in a star for --helpfulness-- and --knowledge--, but how would I know? I never got in!

This Dr. Hopkins and his staff are not professional. Not only do you have to wait 1-2 hours for an appointment, his front desk is Not courteous at all. She acts like she’s doing you a favor. This same front desk also works the back office and handles doors, etc. with the same gloves she just used on the patient. Dr. Hopkins totally exposes his face during COVID. His only excuse for making you wait an hour in the lobby and an hour in the exam room is he was in surgery.

While performing cystoscopy he found tumors, but failed to include this information in his patient summary . Failed to do biopsy. Had to seek treatment from another uroligist who found the tumors again and then performed bladder cancer surgery

After scheduling an appointment more than 2 months ahead of time for the sake of seeing the Dr and not the NP. They call me the morning of the appointment day to tell me I will be seeing a NP and not the Dr. I made sure my appointment was to see the dr and this is why it was pushed more than 2 months. Now they are taking advantage of my weakness as a patient to decide what is better for their business maybe!!! Not trust worthy when you disrespect your patient’s time and what you have caused by last minute change in your protocol!

Very rude and unprofessional office staff! I have never experience such a snooty staff. Do not go to this doctor!

Please visit @brianhopkinsmd before you visit. Dr. Hopkins is one of the main people in East Bay spreading false and misleading information about COVID. Encouraging dewormer medicine, supporting physicians who don’t treat vaccinated patients, advising immune compromised people to avoid boosters. Do you really want to see a physician who doesn’t believe in science?
