I was referred to Dr. Klutke by colleges of mine and was I impressed! The staff at Barnes-Jewish West County was very kind and planning appointments were simple and fast. At each appointment I felt valued by Dr. Klutke who meaningfully recorded and reviewed my symptoms, and he made exams that further identified my interstitial cystitis. Let me just add, if you are unaware that this is one of the most medically challenging conditions to diagnose but was identified by one successful cystoscopy. After he gave me many options and input to the situation at hand. To finish, I successfully recovered, and am extremely happy with the way I was treated by Dr. Klutke and the Barnes Jewish West County Hospital staff.

I am/was a frequent UTI sufferer. Dr. Klutke gave me a comprehensive exam and his diagnosis/tx was perfect. He also advocated taking the least invasive steps - he saved me from an unnecessary surgery as had been proposed by previous doctors I had seen.

I went to Dr. Klutke for acute symptoms of IC/painful bladder syndrome. He was very helpful and made sure to answer all of my question. Excellent doctor!!!

I was self-referred, and while waiting in the hallway heard the doctor discussing my appt. with his medical staff regarding --why-- I was there loud enough to be heard by other patients. Also did not care for the appearance of intern without permission in what essentially is a gynecological exam. Was uncomfortable having two male doctors AND nurse during sensitive exams and tests.

Update 1/31: Still waiting on Kathryn from Dr Klutke 's office to call me back with an update regarding this fiasco. Since Klutke contracted out with Rave I expect his office to get involved and help me deal with RAVE dropping the ball several times yet trying to stick me with a $700 bill. Still no update from Tina Stetina from RAVE either. GOOD GRIEF.
UPDATE 1/24 Rave screwed up AGAIN Filed inadequate Appeal to BCBS in December.Had to refile appeal on 1/13 YET said I am responsible for bill and next ?? ng cycle will send my name to COLLECTIONS!! Besides Raves disaster in supposedly getting approval Pre Auth for this cat scan.
Dr klutke scheduled a cat scan on my husband abdomen due to possible serious health issue. RAVE said they contacted our insurance BCBS for approval is cat scan. RAVE said all was good to go as they spoke to BCBS. Catscan was scheduled for August 9. Well, now RAVE is billing us for the full amount of catscan. BCBS said Dr Klutke Nor RAVE called them to get approval or pre authorization YET RAVE said BCBS did give them ok yet BCBS said ‘not true’. So RAVE is sending us the full cost of catscan.
Someone at RAVE or Urology PreAuthoruzation Dept did NOT do their job This is unacceptable.
BCBS and I today tried doing a conference call with Dr Klukte staff between 1pm and 1:45pm yet staff did not answer the phones, only their answering service. I drove all the way to Dr Klukte’s office to discuss this screwup by their office AND RAVE with billing me full amount of catscan when they dropped the ball. Staff at Urology could not help me notify doctor Klutke that he needs to file appeal with BCBS and notify BCBS this catscan was medically necessary. I was sent on my way without anything accomplished at Klukte’s office, they gave me phone number of lady who does billing and I’ve left voice mails but so far no return call from Kathryn.
Both Dr Klutke AND RAVE must fix this screw up with BCBS. I told them I am NOT paying this $700.00 bill when Klukte ordered it and RAVE said they were told by BCBS that “no pre authorization was needed”, BCBS said ‘not true’. Someone is not telling the truth yet they think they can send us this bill demanding we pay it.
They screwed up. They dropped the ball. Fix this mess. File appeal AND send in doctors notes to BCBS explaining this catscan was medically necessary.
I will see when I get a return call from Katherine from Dr Klutke’s office.
Good grief.

I drove all the way to St Louis from mid-Missouri to see Dr. Carl Klutke because his website professes IC is one of his many specialties. I had been suffering with acute symptoms of IC/painful bladder syndrome for months on end! He had few words to say about my condition, did not ask questions. He offered no insight, and in my opinion, he was very dismissive of my symptoms and lacked compassion. When I asked him good questions about IC, his response was (verbatim) --What is IC? Who knows what IC is?-- I was stunned. I fully understand that IC is a challenging --rule-out-- diagnosis. But I do not get how a doctor comes to understand and then treat a problem when he asks no questions and does not properly assess a patient. I was to come back six months later. Why? I am not sure. When I called his NP a week or so after the appointment, tearful, saying my symptoms were unbearable, asking her if there was anything I could do or take for the symptoms, she said to get a UA to rule out a UTI. In fairness, this was an appropriate response, as people with these symptoms never can be sure if it is an IC flare or an actual UTI. So I got the UA, and she never called me with the results!!!! I consider that totally unacceptable. Instead, I got a letter in the mail three weeks later saying the UA was negative. When I had the NP on the phone three weeks prior, I had asked if there was anything I could take for the pain besides pyridium (as pyridium is not meant to take long-term), in the event the UA was negative, and she said, --no, just drink water.-- In my opinion, that was very insulting! I continued to suffer in a high flare state for several more months until I finally found a competent uro-gyn who thoroughly assessed and diagnosed me and is trying treatments and interventions that are working! I am finally not in tears every single day from this terrible disease of IC/painful bladder syndrome--whatever name you would like to assign this set of symptoms. I am thankful for all the good books out there that have educated me and for the good doctor I now have.

Ive never reviewed a doctor before, but Dr. Klutke was awful. When I saw him for very painful chronic prostatitis, he told me--while walking to the consult room--that there is nothing that anyone can do for the condition and that Id have to live with it. He did do a urodynamic study, because thats his thing and he can bill for it. I, like others who reviewed here, was also told not to come back. Eventually I found another doctor in his practice who correctly diagnosed and treated chronic pelvic pain syndrome. People like this make all doctors look bad.

Several years ago I saw Dr. Klutke for interstital cystitis. After that time, I saw his NP on a regular basis (2-3 times/year). At my last visit I learned that she was leaving the practice for another position, but I should followup with the doctor. I had my follow-up appointment. Prior to this recent appointment, I had a great deal of respect for the doctor and referred others to him. I was greatly disappointed with the treatment I received from him this time. After telling him my recent symptoms, he said, --Its just something youll have to live with.-- He also told me not to come back unless I had blood in my urine or other problems. I was shocked. His mannerisms were so abrupt and rude, not to mention degrading. His NP always took the time for exam, questions and tests. I was basically told not to come back. Shocking....he supposedly treats interstitial cystitis.

He told me to call Medtronic so I did and they made a special trip the night before surgery to turn it off, cutting it close. On Feb. 5 I tried to get a prescription signed so I could get a replacement control. ..."

I would never recommend this Dr. To any one. He inflected so much pain on me, with out any notice or numming and when I asked him to stop he ignored me. For your own good stay away from him and find an other DR.

SunMed Medical solutions has sent at least 8-10 fax's to them and I have called at least 8 times for a reply. I have yet to get a reply. I was not answered by anyone from there. I have made contact with my lawyer for assistance. I cannot use the implant without the control. He is the only one who has office notes and the only doctor I can get to sign the RX.

Went to Dr. Klutke with stress incontence and he said the TVT operation would be the cure. It did nothing for me, and the test results after the operation proved that the operation did not work. I felt that he was very cold toward me when the results proved that the operation was a failure, and I still had the exact same issue. He came up with a very quick answer to have more operations and if they didnt work, then he would reverse all of it. It was such a shock for me to hear this, that I said I would think about. His answer was that the next time he would see me was in surgery. To me this meant that he had nothing more to say except to perform more surgery. No other options were provided. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience. To this day I still have the same issue.

WARNING. THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY. DO NOT GO HERE. My husband went in for a procedure 8/10/22 that was 100% covered by insurance. The procedure was fine. He did a good job. But not with the headache after. For whatever reason the office said it was standard procedure to collect $600 and when the insurance company pays they would refund us right away… we questioned this because it seemed wrong that even though a procedure was fully covered we had to pay. They assured us over and over it was normal. I called a few weeks later and after many attempts to reach the office I got ahold of Kathryn in billing. She said once insurance received payment our card would be refunded. Weeks later I called again. At this point they received payment (I think it was about 9/28 they got insurance money). She confirmed we did double pay and we were owed the money. About 10 days later I called because still no refund.. mind you it takes calling over and over and over get Kathryn to answer. She changed her story and said they no longer are able to refund the card I had to get a check. Okay that’s fine.. send the check out. 10/25 I called and STILL NO REFUND. This time Kathryn said the check went out over 10 days ago and she doesn’t know what to tell me. I stated I was going to dispute the charge and then she said “oh wait the check went out yesterday”. It is now 11/2. Still no refund. Still no check. And this point I’m wondering if they do things fraudulently. How many people do they double charge and they just never notice?? The only way I KNEW it was covered by insurance was because I checked myself that it was a covered procedure WE WERE AT MY DEDUCTIBLE. It all seemed wrong to me up front but I went against my gut. They had no intention to tell us and seems they intended to just keep the money. I intent to report them to BBB and anyone else I need to so this doesn’t happen to others.

No issues with Dr. Klutke. Awesome Doctor.
#1 issue: No one EVER picks up the phone.... EVER.
Several times I would leave a message, good chance they won't even respond by reurning the call. If you read other reviews, you will see several other patients have the same complaint. Office manager should be fired.
