Dr Sovell is an exceptional Dr. He takes time with his patients and listens to them.. He is personable, thorough and an excellent surgeon. With kidney stones, just before covid hit, he pushed me through the red tape quickly and got it taken care of successfully before a big trip. Luckily because I would have had to have surgery out of town during covid had he not done this for me. I see too many disgruntled postings about doctors from people with agendas that don't reflect this excellent doctor and person's care

Dr Sovell had a buisy clinic but was able to take the time to talk about my problems. He gave good advice and my surgery went very well. I was very happy to be free of cancer after the surgery.

Doctor very willing to take time to understand my condition and concerns, willing to discuss treatment options and trade-offs. Couldnt be more pleased.

Dr. Sovell did an excellent job of diagnosing my condition, providing me with accurate information and advice, but most importantly he and his team performed a successful surgical procedure. Everything he told me to expect, in fact happened. I was greatly impressed by his competence and professionalism. I would recommend him to anyone.

I learned that I had a tumor on one of my kidneys after getting a CT scan to deal with a different health issue. My radiation oncologist referred me to Dr. Sovell and his group. Dr. Sovell showed the CT scan to me and explained what I was seeing there. He explained why, with my medical history and the location of the tumor, my entire kidney had to be removed. Dr. Sovell and Dr. Reddy performed the surgery, and it says something about their skill as surgeons that I was completely off the narcotic pain killers by the time I left the hospital one week later. Dr. Sovell also arranged for me to meet with an oncologist for the first time; I had received two cancer diagnoses before I met with him. I recommend Dr. Sovell without reservation.

Dr.Sovell has seemed baffled about my condition from the begining, one min. he tells me its simple- no problem, then I wake from surgery and he seems unable to tell me what he did and why and how it went from being simple to complicated. His visits last 5 min. tops, he prescribed me medications that had interactions with eachother which I would not known had the pharmacist not told me not to take them together. The other on-call docs at this office are unconcerned, rude and dismissive. Ive not been happy with anyone at this office except for the nurses. After I get this issue cleared up I will never go near this office ever again.

He is a nice person and had a good surgical outcome. His office staff is always grouchy and impatient. They lose lab results and do not return phone calls for several days on end. Due to the support staff I will not go back.

I spent 45 minutes getting transferred from person to person just to schedule an appt. at the Cambridge location. Some of it was the switch board - but at some of the transfers were within the department itself - at least twice the sent me back to the main switch board where I had to re queue. I already wish there was another option for me at this clinic.

Did not do enough pre-work before recommending surgery, which was performed but ultimately unnecessary. Ignored complaints about pain due to surgery, staff very unhelpful with attitude to boot.

I saw him three times and each appointment averaged about 5 minutes, although I was in the room waiting for an average of 30 minutes. One time I overheard the PAs talking about how he was in the break room eating cake (15 min after my appointment started). Every appointment was rushed and uncomfortable. I have an unknown condition and he was not helpful in troubleshooting. At the end of the day, he couldnt offer me a diagnosis, which is fine, but he didnt offer me any next steps or techniques for managing the pain, either. When pressed, he threw up his hands and said --hot baths.-- Hes probably the least personable doctor Ive ever seen. He gave me the distinct impression that he could care less about me or my condition. I only stuck with him after the first appointment because I didnt want to start over with another doctor, but now I gladly will. Im never going back to this joker again.

He cant be trusted after the operation he left me high and dry was in screaming pain for a week he wouldnt call me back or even see me I went to emergency two times in that week just to be turned away because we was my surgeon and only he can take care of the problem that I had after the surgury. all I can say he was in a hurry for me to get the operation get his MONEY then leaves you stranded and I havent been the same after the operation.

Went in for surgury, after it was done asked if everything went well he said yes. I came for my post op ( maybe lasted 2 minutes) I had concerns that some of the healing didnt go so well he said it was fine. It has been a couple months and I know the stiching didnt heal correctly. So now I have to go back and pay more money to get it fixed because he didnt do it right the first time.

The ER doctor admitted me to the hospital with kidney stones and infection. Dr. Sovell did not show up to discuss a diagnosis and treatment plan until after 2pm. He spent less than 5 minutes saying take antibiotics and drink lots of fluids. He was quite rude and told me all the treatments he could not due because of my size. Very demeaning comments about my weight and how it will effect my back, knees and hips. It appeared he brought his adolescent child with him to the hospital. She was peaking through the blinds to my room to watch. Totally inappropriate.

Went to see him about bladder pain. He gave me a prostate exam and it really hurt. Ive had about 10 in my life but they never hurt. This guy poked me so hard and deep and kept poking for a while. Its been a few days now and Im still sore. I think he irritated my prostate or bruised it some how. Also he didnt listen to what I had to say. He told me that i would get better in 4-6 months and to go home and have a nice day. No more testing or anything. Im pretty sure u dont just have prostatitis. The er room said I had orchitis that they discovered with a ultrasound. How come Dr sovell doesnt use tools like that to look for problems or at least refer me out. He lied to me and said he wont do a ultrasound of bladder because nothing shows up. But I read that they can discover lots of things with an altrasound.

The doctor has an inability to provide eye contact or carry on a conversation about the needs and well-being of the patient; this causes incorrect diagnosis for the patients. Additionally, his nurse staff is rude, she hung up the phone on me and he did a surgical procedure without giving proper care instructions. Without the proper care instructions the stitches came out and he didnt do anything to correct the problem. I believe there should have been more communication prior to such an invasive surgery. He is horrible

Monday 9/14/15 10:30AM Appt with Dr. Sovell My father is 79 and has alzheimers, uses a walker and is very prone to falling and passing out when standing. Julie J. the nurse was very abusive, and argumentative with us. In order to do the procedure- he would have to stand or sit, whatever his primary mode to urinate is. Julie J. asked my father which he does, he hesitated and said I stand. I then said, no, you sit now. Dr M has requested that he sit whenever using the bathroom due to fall risk. When I told Julie J this, she said well do it standing. I again said no, he may fall, and that is NOT the way he does it at home. She said --well do it my way-- I asked to see Dr. Sovell, she said we didnt have an appointment with him, but with her. I then got up and told Julie J that I was going to leave the room, and she would be responsible for him if he fell. I went to the waiting room and asked to see the office manager Rhonda. I told her the situation and she said shed take care of it. Julie J. then walked my father out to the waiting room where she said she would not do the procedure today, because they didnt have the staff to do it, and thats what Dr Sovell wanted. I asked to speak with the Dr and again she refused. She never asked questions and was rude and put my father into a bad and unsafe situation.

On a Saturday morning at 8:30 I went to Abbott Hospital with a kidney stone. It stone was about 8mm and it was blocking my urethra in the upper part of the tube. It was causing pain and blood in my urine. On Saturday evening Dr. Sovell called me and stated he would do a procedure on me Sunday. I asked the nurses Sunday morning if they knew what time Dr. Sovell would be there. They did not know. Sunday afternoon the nurse came back and took me down to pre-opp. The staff had me ready then Dr. Sovell came in and told my wife and I that he were going to just put a stent in next to the stone and leave the stone in place (blocking and causing blood and pain) and would have to come back in roughly 2 weeks to have him go inside and blast the stones. Dr. Sovell also told us he had physically ran to the hospital as he was wiping sweat from his head and arms. My wife and I both feel that the operating room staff was ready for him to do the procedure but he told them that he had to take a shower first. After the procedure I was a mess. When I first got back to my room and had to pee, I had LOTS of blood and pain and just about passed out as the nurse caught me and called for help. At this time I asked for my wife. The staff found her in the operating waiting room for over 2 1/2 hours. Dr. Sovell NEVER CAME AND TALKED TO HER. NOT ACCEPTABLE!! And he never came and talked to us anytime before I left the hospital Monday afternoon.Dr. Sovell, if you dont want to be on call, do us all a favor and get someone else that cares about patients and not so concerned about your weekend plans. People are in hospitals for a reason. The hospital staff and my stay there was an A+ No complaints on the staff, just Dr. Sovell. Later that week I was running out of pain meds so I called his office and talked to Esther. I asked her to talk to Dr. Sovell for more pain meds and she stated without even checking with him --Im sure it wont authorize a refill of the pain meds and just take Tylenol-- . I dont believe that is her call. i would avoid Dr. Sovell and dealing with Esther. I ended up going to Methodist and had Dr. Kesha do it two days after call her. She was GREAT! Im staying with her in the future.
